Execution time analysis is central to the design and veri cation of real-time embedded systems. One approach to this problem is GameTime, a toolkit for timing analysis, which predicts the timing of various program paths using platform measurements of a special subset of paths. This thesis explores extensions to GameTime to handle two common sources of data-dependent timing behavior: instructions with variable timing and load/store dependencies. We present a technique for automatically learning a model of the data dependencies and encoding this model into the code under analysis for processing by GameTime. Using these extensions, we show that GameTime more accurately predicts the timing for a variety of benchmarks.

The recent success of deep learning is driving a trend towards structurally complex computer vision models that combine feature extraction with predictive elements into integrated pipelines. While some of these models have achieved breakthrough results in applications like object recognition, they are dicult to design and tune, impeding progress. We feel that visual analysis can be a powerful tool to aid iterative development of deep model pipelines. Building on feature evaluation work in the computer vision community, we introduce ML-o-scope, an interactive visualization system for exploratory analysis of convolutional neural networks, a prominent type of pipelined model. We present ML-o-scope's time-lapse engine that pro- vides views into model dynamics during training, and evaluate the system as a support for tuning large scale object-classi cation pipelines.

The development of cobalt alloys for the development of HIP implants has been evolving overtime. Accordingly, in this work an overview of the main microstructural factors that impact the mechanical properties, as well as the effect of interstitials such as carbon and nitrogen. In addition the role alloy pre-straining and heat treating on the amount of ε-martensite and on the exhibited mechanical properties is described. In general, it is shown that as the amount of ε-martensite exceeds 60 vol. percent, the alloy ductility is drastically reduced as the HCP phase becomes dominant in the matrix.

In the knowledge-tracing model, error metrics are used to guide parameter estimation towards values that accurately represent students' dynamic cognitive state. We compare several metrics, including log likelihood (LL), root mean squared error (RMSE), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), to evaluate which metric is most suited for this purpose. LL is commonly used as an error metric in Expectation Maximization (EM) to perform parameter estimation. RMSE and AUC have been suggested but have not been explored in depth. In order to examine the e ectiveness of using each metric, we measure the cor- relations between the values calculated by each and the distances from the corresponding points to the ground truth. Additionally, we examine how each metric compares to the others. Our ndings show that RMSE is signi cantly better than LL and AUC. With more knowledge of e ective error metrics for estimating parameters in the knowledge-tracing model, we hope that better parameter searching algorithms can be created.

Effects of solvent types and extraction methods were investigated for effective recovery of fatty oils from Fructus Leonuri fruit.Among the five solvents tested,dichloromethane gave the highest recovery with Soxhlet extract ion (SE),and ethanol gave the highest recovery with microwave assisted extraction (MAE).In addition,the fatty oil content of the MAE extract was found to be only slightly lower than that of SE,but MAE was shown to permit comparable extract ion efficiency with 30 fold reduction in extraction time and 2 fold reduction in solvent consumption.

Technological advances in communication and computing coupled with low costs of sensors have enabled large-scale deployment of video camera networks in our environment nowadays. They are increasingly being used by decision-makers for perceiving elements of an environment in real-time, comprehending their meaning and predicting their status in the near future. Such situational awareness is crucial in dynamic scenarios that arise in military command and control, facility security and emergency services such as policing and fire-fighting. While human perception driven situation awareness has worked well in constrained settings, it is unfortunately not scalable. Furthermore, scenarios such as security and surveillance commonly involve highly complex cognitive tasks that can quickly become monotonous and mentally taxing for human operators. In this thesis, we present new frameworks for automating the perception stage of situation awareness.

Given BOEMs authority under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct), and the various considerations under the OCS Lands Act and NEPA, BOEM needs to garner a better understanding of the potential impacts to the environment from the development of offshore renewable energy projects, and to identify specific mitigation measures that can be taken to reduce or avoid such impacts. The ESS Project Team, comprised of ESS Group, Inc. (ESS), GL Garrad Hassan America Inc. (GL GH), Curry and Kerlinger LLC (C&K), and Mote Marine Laboratory (MML), was selected to conduct a review of regulations and lighting schemes currently in use and evaluate how proposed lighting schemes for offshore wind facilities may impact local environments and offshore waters as a desktop study, literature review and synthesis. The study was conducted in three parts: 1. a literature review of scientific studies, journals and grey literature of the potential direct and indirect impacts of various lighting schemes to birds, bats, marine mammals, sea turtles and fish was conducted; 2. a compilation of current international and domestic guidelines, rules and regulations for obstruction and navigation lights for offshore wind facilities was conducted, and project specific information was gathered from operational offshore wind facilities throughout the world describing various lighting schemes currently in use; and 3. using information from the literature review and project specific lighting schemes, measures to mitigate impacts to wildlife and coastal communities were identified and evaluated.

Construct and test prototype accelerometer using cantilever design. Test strain sensitivity of CNT tape against industrial strain gauge. Embed CNT tape in composite samples as well as on surface and test to failure (4 point bend). A piezoelectric device exhibits an electrical response from a mechanical applied stress. A piezoelectric device has both capacitance and resistance properties in which by applying an electric field from a waveform will exert a mechanical stress that can be monitored for a response. The typical waveform applied is a sinusoidal waveform of a defined voltage for a defined period. The defined voltage is driven from 0 volts to the positive defined volts then back to 0 and driven to negative defined volts then back to 0. Example. Vmax set to 10V and period set to 10 ms. Voltage will start at zero, go to 10 volts, return to zero, go to 10 volts and return to zero during 10 ms. Applying this electrical field to a DUT, the capacitance response and resistance response can be observed. CNT tape is easier to manufacture and cheaper than micromachining silicon or other ceramic piezoelectric used in gyroscopes and accelerometers. CNT tape properties can be modified during manufacture for specific application. CNT tape has enhanced mechanical and thermal properties in addition to unique electrical properties. CNT tape as a strain gauge in Structural Health Monitoring will provide an excellent material to embed within composite structures.

Biomarker detection is rapidly emerging as an important clinical tool, especially in the battle against cancer. Cancer is a complex disease with time-dependent dynamics, and presymptomatic indicators are useful in early detection, accurate diagnosis, and developing therapeutic strategies. Such biomarkers provide a "signature" of the health state and are found in biological fluids in blood or urine, and recently in saliva. Saliva is easily accessible in a noninvasive manner and can be collected with less patient discomfort relative to blood. In addition, the levels of interfering material (cells, DNA, RNA, and proteins) and inhibitory substances are lower and less complex in saliva than in blood.

Commercial buildings use 73% of all electricity consumed in the United States [30], and numerous studies suggest that there is a signi cant unrealized opportunity for savings [69, 72, 81]. One of the many reasons this problem persists in the face of nancial incentives is that owners and operators have very poor visibility into the operation of their buildings. Making changes to operations often requires expensive consultants, and the technological capacity for change is unnecessarily limited. Our thesis is that some of these issues are not simply failures of incentives and organization but failures of technology and imagination: with a better software framework, many aspects of building operation would be improved by innovative software applications.
