    Magnetic field imaging using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond has a number of compelling life sciences applications, owing to useful characteristics such as high sensitivity down to nanometer-scale resolution, inherent biocompatibility, no need for electrical sensor contact, and highly- parallel detection of many pixels simultaneously. Quantum Diamond Technologies Inc. (QTDI) has focused primarily in Phase I on one target application and modality: high-throughput, high-sensitivity detection of rare cells and biomarkers. QDTI made significant progress toward this goal in the First Quarter, as reported here.

    This project was an initial effort to investigate the feasibility of an instrument combining real-time atmospheric particle composition measurements using an ATOFMS (Atmospheric Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometer) such as those performed by Prathers group at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with multi-wavelength scattering measurements of the type investigated by Sorensen et al., of Kansas State University (KSU). In this Phase I effort we proposed to investigate near-angle scattering and the possibility of integration of a multi-wavelength scattering instrument into the UCSD ATOFMS. After an initial optical design and calculations, we discovered issues with the theory of measurement and with mechanical integration. Evidence emerged that the method of multi-wavelength scattering is only efficacious for spherical particles, while most atmospheric particles are non-spherical fractal aggregates. We also determined that the integration of the detector into existing ATOFMS instruments would be severely limited by volume constraints, and additional volume would require prohibitive additional pumping compared with the existing ATOFMS systems. Based on this evidence, we decided not to pursue a Phase II effort.

    This report is a collection of reliability and maintenance data on several types of radiation protection instrumentation. Some radiation detectors are used for personnel safety; others are used for environmental stewardship. Six types of instruments are addressed in this report. These are: continuous air monitors, tritium room air monitors, facility vent stack monitors, tritium bubbler monitors, tritium in effluent water monitors, and general purpose radiation survey meters. Literature searches, operating experience data, and occurrence reports were used to identify failure modes and to estimate quantitative failure rates for several general types of radiation protection instruments. Likewise, data on instrument repair has been found when possible and used to estimate the mean time to repair. These data can be useful for facility safety assessment, personnel safety assessment, environment assessment, and for equipment and labor planning purposes.

  • 5.TLD仪表:PC控制的TL阅读器

    Thermoluminescence reader is an important tool and a requisite for a researcher to study and characterize Thermoluminescence (TL) materials in different forms. Requirement for a versatile PC Controlled TL Reader has been felt for quite some time globally. Nucleonix Systems, Hyderabad, India, have developed a PC Controlled TL Reader by integrating complete electronics hardware circuits (comprising of Power Electronics, Low/High voltage Supplies, Temperature Controller, Micro Controller based data acquisition circuits having serial counter, ADC, DAC, EEPROM, PMT, PMT housing, sample heating system, drawer assembly, etc.) in a single enclosure. The system also integrated with software to calculate the activation energy (E), frequency factor (S) and order of kinetics '1' for the prominent glow peaks using different equations. This Integral TL Reader unit gets connected to the Personal Computer System through serial port RS232C/USB port. The user interface to the system is through front-end VB software defined Graphics User Interface (GUI). The system also contains some of the software features like glow curve acquisition, analysis, filing, printing, plotting, overlapping, maker data reporting, etc. Additionally, system facilitates single/two/three plateau heating with variable heating rates. The primary objective of this development is to bring out versatile TL instrumentation system and also to make it affordable to many of the researchers in the Universities and other areas, including Radio-therapist, Medical Physicists in Cancer Hospitals. This system has been evaluated for its performance with CaSO_4 Dy discs, powder, as well as with LiF: Mg, Ti chips. Linearity and reproducibility have been found to be quite satisfactory also within ±2%. This system is quite useful to study the TL of phosphor, minerals and characterization of various solid semiconducting materials, and also can be used in personal dosimetry measurements and research studies in medical dosimetry, environmental radiation monitoring, and host of other applications in R&D Labs., etc.

    Our contribution is based on a research aimed to a "quick" resolution of an integrated problem oriented towards the self-localization and perimetration through mobile devices. The adopted methodology is applied on a real case study by using the following surveying tools: a kinematic Global Positioning System (GPS) and a Laser Scanner supporting a "mobile platform". A GPS receiver provided by Leica Geosystem and a two-dimensional Laser Scanner provided by the Automation and Control Laboratory of the University "Mediteranea" of Reggio Calabria were positioned on an experimental mobile system specifically designed to simulate the behaviour of a future and fully automated platform. The research is aimed to conduct the traditional land surveying through a Laser Scanner alongside with GPS receivers in a three dimensional centimetric resolution within one single system of reference made up of individual scans operated by a "Stop-and-Go" device.

  • 9.TVA-1000B有毒蒸汽分析仪评价

    The United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine's Consultative Services Division (USAFSAM/OEC) was asked by HQ ACC/SGXH to evaluate the TVA-1000B toxic vapor analyzer due to the fact that its life cycle as standard Air Force Bioenvironmental Engineering equipment is projected to end in 2014. The primary purpose of the TVA-1000B is to provide a quick screening tool for detection of a wide variety of toxic industrial chemicals/materials, while at the same time giving a good approximation of the quantity of contaminant present. USAFSAM was asked to determine whether a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution exists that could better detect and quantify a broader range of chemicals than the TVA-1000B. USAFSAM conducted an exhaustive literature review to answer this question. Based on this review, there do not seem to be enough significant advantages in existing COTS portable gas and vapor monitoring instruments to justify replacing the TVA-1000B at this time.
