We modeled a shirt by printing a number of markers over it and recording the positions of these distinguishable markers. We implemented a computer-vision based system that tracked visible markers on the shirt, and reconstructed the shirt using the world coordinate of each marker. Furthermore, we created a realistic physics-based simulation that accurately models the real world, including gravity, self collision, rigid body motion and so on, to generate instructions to PR2 by taking the configuration of a shirt as input and work out a sequence of actions to take based on existing algorithms.

Given the many challenges that silicon based transistors are facing in continuedscaling, it has become highly attractive to consider alternate material platforms in thepursuit of high performance electronics, such as InAs for its high electron mobility.Traditionally InAs devices have suffered from many processing difficulties and high offcurrents. However many of these issues have been resolved with the introduction of III-Vnanostructure on insulator platforms. One interesting challenge that remains is the patterned p-type doping of InAs. The scarcity of photolithographically patternable p-typedoping techniques is a major disadvantage of the InAs platform, as it prevents InAs frombeing applied to many known device structures.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are integrations of computation with physical processes. These systems must be equipped to handle the inherent concurrency and inexorable passage of time of physical processes. Traditional computing abstractions only concern themselves with the functional aspects of a program, and not its timing properties.In this work, we address the difficulties of handling time in computing systems by reexamining the lower levels of abstraction. In particular, we focus on the instruction set architecture (ISA) layer and its affects on microarchitecture design. The ISA defines the contract between software instructions and hardware implementations. Modern ISAs do not constrain timing properties of instructions as part of the contract. Thus, architecture designs have largely implemented techniques that improve average performance at the expense of execution time variability. This leads to imprecise WCET bounds that limit the timing predictability and timing composability of architectures.

Function calls are a basic primitive by which applications invoke services from external entities. In this paper, we propose “network calls” (netcalls), a general primitive to invoke advanced traffic processing services – such as firewalling or caching – from the network. We design and implement the netcalls API and a backend architecture to support netcalls, allowing end host applications to interact with services not only in their own access network, but any network their traffic traverses. Demonstrating the utility of netcalls, we built three applications to invoke netcalls, along with corresponding network services: interdomain firewalling for DDoS defense, ‘opportunistic’ traffic compression, and intrusion detection for mobile phones.

One of the most significant market structure developments in recent years is high frequency trading ("HFT"). By utilizing modern high-speed computers and computation technologies, HFT firms are able to execute electronic transactions within milliseconds even microseconds and therefore taking advantage of small discrepancies in prices, and regulator are weighing new rules for high-speed trading. Although the equity market is drastically competitive, the potential opportunities are to develop advanced technologies including trading models and algorithms. The technical part mainly discussed mathematical models to process the Limit Order Book (LOB) Information, especially for the discrete model, which is quite popular in research on high frequency trading. This article mainly focus on the market making strategies, we developed two major strategies and tested them using real market data. Details of implementations of these strategies and their pros and cons are also provided.

Capacitorless dynamic random access memory (DRAM) is a promising solution to cellarea scalability and complex fabrication process issues for conventional DRAM.The thin body SOI transistor, which suppresses the short channel effect and also minimizes variability, is selected for the capacitorless DRAM cell structure. The impact of substrate doping concentration on capacitorless DRAM cell performance is studied and a novel selective well structure is proposed.
