    To efficiently scale dense linear algebra problems to future exascale systems, communication cost must be avoided or overlapped. Communication-avoiding 2.5D algorithms improve scalability by reducing inter-processor data transfer volume at the cost of extra memory usage. Communication overlap attempts to hide messaging latency by pipelining messages and overlapping with computational work. We study the interaction and compatibility of these two techniques for two matrix multiplication algorithms (Cannon and SUMMA), triangular solve, and Cholesky factorization. For each algorithm, we construct a detailed performance model which considers both critical path dependencies and idle time. We give novel implementations of 2.5D algorithms with overlap for each of these problems. Our software employs UPC, a partitioned global address space (PGAS) language that provides fast one-sided communication. We show communication avoidance and overlap provide a cumulative benefit as core counts scale, including results using over 24K cores of a Cray XE6 system.

    We consider the problem of estimating the locations of a set of points in a k-dimensional euclidean space given a subset of the pairwise distance measurements between the points. We focus on the case when some fraction of these measurements can be arbitrarily corrupted by large additive noise. This is motivated by applications like sensor networks, molecular conformation and manifold learning where the measurement process can induce large bias errors in some fraction of the distance measurements due to physical effects like multipath, spin-diffusion etc. Given the NP-completeness of the problem, we propose a convex relaxation that involves decomposing the partially observed matrix of distance measurements into low-rank and sparse components,wherein the low-rank component corresponds to the Euclidean Distance Matrix and the sparse component is a matrix of biases. Using recent results from the literature, we show that this convex relaxation yields the exact solution for the class of fixed radius random geometric graphs. We evaluate the performance of the algorithm on an experimental data set obtained from a network of 44 nodes in an indoor environment and show that the algorithm is robust to non-line-of-sight bias errors.

    Interleaving theories have traditionally failed to integrate a satisfactory treatment of the so-called nite delay property". This is generally attributed to the expansion law of such theories, but actually,the problem is rooted in the concept of labelled transition system. We introduce a new type of system,in which, instead of labelled transitions, we have, essentially, sequences of labelled transitions. We call systems of this type labelled execution systems. We use a coalgebraic representation to obtain, in a canonical way, a suitable concept of bisimilarity among such systems, study the conditions under which that concept agrees with the intuitive understanding of equivalence of branching structure that one has for these systems, and examine their relationship with labelled transition systems, precisely characterizing the di erence in expressive power and branching complexity between the two kinds of systems.

    This report outlines the demonstration of the 3M(Trade Mark)Scotchkote(Trade Mark)spray-in-place pipe (SIPP) 269 product undertaken in Somerville, New Jersey for New Jersey American Water. The product is a polyurea, which has a faster cure time compared to polyurethane and epoxy linings. The field demonstration allowed an evaluation of the main benefits claimed and limitations cited by 3M(Trade Mark)for this emerging spray-on lining technology. The demonstration of the 3M(Trade Mark)Scotchkote(Trade Mark)SIPP 269 product in Somerville, New Jersey ultimately resulted in a liner failure. The liner failure had a positive effect in discovering the product was not robust enough for use in typical in situ water main conditions, leading to its removal from the market. The removal of the product from the market also led the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Polymeric Lining Standards Subcommittee to put its standard development on hold pending the development of a product with a reasonable track record of success. 3M(Trade Mark)is currently developing a new formulation for a semi-structural spray-on lining application.

    Therapeutic options for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease have improved tremendously over the last decades and can be divided into three categories: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation. Transplantation remains the treatment of choice, however, lack of donor organs results in the necessity of performing -temporary-dialysis therapies of which hemodialysis is carried out in the majority of patients. To facilitate adequate hemodialysis therapy a reliable vascular access is mandatory and can be provided by either surgically connecting an artery with a vein (arteriovenous fistula), surgically connecting an artery with a vein using an interposition of prosthetic graft material (arterioven-ous graft) or a central venous catheter. This chapter shortly reviews the condition of end-stage renal disease after which history of vascular access, different options to create a vascular access, pre-operative work-up, surgical procedure, monitoring and usage, post-operative complications and the role of hemodynamics will be discussed. Finally, some future directions for vascular access creation and management will be identified.

    Data converters can be classi ed into two main categories: Nyquist-rate and oversampling con- verters. Nyquist-rate converters exhibit one-to-one correspondence between the input and output, do not use memory elements, and can convert higher bandwidth (BW) signals at lower sampling frequencies [1]. Nyquist-rate converters are typically more suitable for high bandwidth applications since they sample near the Nyquist frequency. The drawback of Nyquist-rate converters is that analog component matching directly impacts linearity and accuracy, and practical conditions of today limit these converters to approximately 14-bit resolution.

    A recent rise in asphalt binder prices has led state agencies and contractors to use higher quantities of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP). Besides being economic, sustainable, and environmentally friendly, RAP can be replaced for a portion of aggregates in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) where quality aggregates are scarce. In this project, the effect of increasing RAP percentage and using fractionated RAP (FRAP) in HMA mixture on moisture resistance, rutting, and fatigue cracking were evaluated. Mixtures with five different RAP and FRAP contents (20, 30, and 40RAP, and 30and 40FRAP) were studied. The Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device (HWTD) Test (TEX-242-F), Kansas Standard Test Method KT-56 or modified Lottman Test, and Dynamic Modulus Test (AASHTO TP: 62-03) were used to predict moisture damage, rutting potential and fatigue cracking resistance of the mixes. HMA specimens were prepared based on Superpave HMA mix design criteria for 12.5 mm (1/2 inch) Nominal Maximum Aggregate Size (NMAS) and compacted using the Superpave gyratory compactor. Results of these tests showed that although mixture performance in the laboratory tests declined as the percentage of RAP increased in the mix, even mixtures with 40RAP passed the minimum requirements in commonly used tests.

  • 4390.Reachability-based混合控制器的设计方法

    With the increasing complexity of systems found in practical applications, the problem of controller design is often approached in a hierarchical fashion, with discrete abstractions and design methods used to satisfy high level task specifications, and continuous abstractions and design techniques used to satisfy low level control objectives. Although such a separation allows the application of mature theoretical and computational tools from the realms of computer science and control theory, the task of ensuring desired closed-loop behaviors, which results from the composition between discrete and continuous designs, often requires costly and time consuming verification and validation. This problem becomes especially acute in safety-critical applications, in which design specifications are often subject to rigorous industry standards and government regulations. Hybrid systems, which feature state trajectories evolving on a combination of discrete and continuous state spaces, have been proposed as a possible approach to reconcile the analysis and design techniques from the discrete and continuous domains under a rigorous theoretical framework. However, designing controllers for general classes of hybrid systems is a highly nontrivial task, as such a design problem inherits both the difficulty of nonlinear control, as well as the range of theoretical and computational issues introduced by the consideration of discrete switching.
