Reducing the environmental impact of facilities and operations has become an important function for many organizations. In many cases, such as utility and fuel use, reducing these impacts can also be coupled to financial savings. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has determined that conducting an energy and CO2 audit of its building and vehicle fleets will aid in assessing KDOT energy use, prepare for any future regulations regarding CO2 emissions, and help identify areas for increased savings through reduced use of commercial resources (primarily energy and fuel).

In this research effort, a Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) cantilever pressure sensor was designed, modeled, and fabricated to investigate the photoacoustic (PA) response of gases to terahertz (THz) radiation under low vacuum conditions. Previous efforts in this project were improved upon, to include lowering resting out-of-plane curvature to improve sensitivity of devices. Dimensional analysis is taken into consideration and altered dimensions also serve to boost sensitivity while improving fragility of devices. All devices were fabricated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers and tested in a custom designed THz vacuum chamber. Fabricated devices have a minimum normalized noise equivalent absorption (NNEA) coefficient of 4.28x10(- 10), an improvement of 69% on prior 10micro devices.

On April 15, 2011, NIOSH received an employee request regarding headaches, fatigue, weakness, fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath, coughing, chronic sinusitis, sore throat, burning eyes, and difficulty concentrating in a water-damaged building. In June 2011, NIOSH investigators conducted a site visit. The majority of employees reported building-related symptoms. We found evidence of water damage inside the building and mold inside supply air ducts of two air handlers. Vacuumed carpet dust samples collected during the site visit showed a high burden of culturable fungi and bacteria. We provided a number of recommendations for remediation including addressing causes of water damage and replacing contaminated carpet and ductwork. Building management replaced two rooftop air handling units and some ductwork. The carpet was steam cleaned. Some building occupants continued to have symptoms, and the accounting company relocated to another building.

This study proposes a novel sliding mode control with self-turning law for nonlinear systems with time-delay and external disturbances possessing uncertain parameters. The adjustable control gain and a bipolar sigmoid function are online tuned to force the tracking error to approach zero. The proposed control scheme provides good transient and steady-state performance. Moreover as the proposed controller, the chatting phenomenon can be avoided and the problem of time-delay and external disturbances are solved for a class of nonlinear systems. The closed-loop control system stability is proved to use the Lyapunov method. Steady-state system performance and chattering are considerably improved. Numerical simulation results are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.

The objective of this study was to determine the impact of early life episodic ozone and particulate matter (PM) exposure on parameters of immunity that affect responses to infectious disease and lung function. We investigated a cohort of 50 California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) outdoor colony rhesus monkeys that were born within three months prior to the Trinity and Humboldt County wildfires of June/July 2008. We hypothesized that combined ozone and wildfire PM(sub 2.5) exposure during early life would result in detrimental effects on immunity and lung physiology. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a nonterminal and minimally invasive study in three-year old adolescent monkeys exposed to combined ozone and wildfire PM(sub 2.5) as infants by (1) evaluation of the peripheral blood response to microbial ligands and (2) measurement of lung mechanics. Compared with a cohort of 50 age-matched control monkeys, peripheral blood cells from exposed animals showed reduced cytokine synthesis when cultured with microbial ligands. Increased airways hyperresponsiveness and reduced lung compliance correlated with reduced peripheral blood cell cytokine synthesis in exposed female animals (less response to microbial challenge). We conclude that early life exposure to combined ozone and wildfire PM(sub 2.5) can result in immune and lung function decrements that persist with maturity. In addition, CNPRC rhesus monkeys could serve as biologic sentinels for chronic human health effects of ambient air pollution.

546.基于LBTM的交通车流的跟踪和统计方法研究

Since limitations have been encountered in the achievement of the traditional targets tracking algorithms, a novel tracking method based on local block-graphs targets matching is proposed. Car flow tracking is applied to prove the effectiveness of the method. First, the images containing the targets are captured by the video frames to get the targets block-graphs. Second, the block-graphs can be used to achieve targets matching, and the detection process can be achieved by targets matching to get the optimal targets set. Finally, the targets set can be used to achieve the minimum deviation forecasting of all frames, and the targets tracking can be achieved. A junction video is selected as the experimental data, and a large number of experiments have been done. The results show that the proposed method not only has a great effect to track cars, but also has a better detection rate and tracking accuracy. The car flow statistics can be completed effectively.

The Morpheus vertical test vehicle is an autonomous robotic lander being developed at Johnson Space Center (JSC) to test hazard detection technology. Because the initial ground contact simulation model was not very realistic, it was decided to improve the model without making it too computationally expensive. The first development cycle added capability to define vehicle attachment points (AP) and to keep track of their states in the lander reference frame (LFRAME). These states are used with a spring damper model to compute an AP contact force. The lateral force is then overwritten, if necessary, by the Coulomb static or kinetic friction force. The second development cycle added capability to use the PolySurface class as the contact surface. The class can load CAD data in STL (Stereo Lithography) format, and use the data to compute line of sight (LOS) intercepts. A polygon frame (PFRAME) is computed from the facet intercept normal and used to convert the AP state to PFRAME. Three flat plane tests validate the transitions from kinetic to static, static to kinetic, and vertical impact. The hazardous terrain test will be used to test for visual reasonableness. The improved model is numerically inexpensive, robust, and produces results that are reasonable.

The Air Pollution Control Technology Center (APCT Center) is operated by RTI International (RTI), in cooperation with EPAs National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL). The APCT Center evaluates the performance of baghouse filtration products (BFPs) used primarily to control PM2.5 emissions (i.e., particles 2.5 im and smaller in aerodynamic diameter). This verification statement summarizes the test results for TTG Inc.s TG100 filtration media. The protocol is based on and describes modifications to the equipment and procedures described in Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) 3926, Part 2, Testing of Filter Media for Cleanable Filters under Operational Conditions, December 1994. The VDI document is available from Beuth Verlag GmbH, 10772 Berlin, Germany. The protocol also includes requirements for quality management and QA, procedures for product selection, auditing of the test laboratories, and the test reporting format. Outlet particle concentrations from a test fabric were measured with an impactor equipped with appropriate substrates to filter and measure PM2.5 within the dust flow. Outlet particle concentrations were determined by weighing the mass increase of dust collected in each impactor filter stage and dividing by the gas volumetric flow through the impactor.

In the paper a robust Model Predictive Control structure for speed regulation of a drive system with an elastic transmission is proposed. A methodology for robust design based on suitable selection of the explicit form of MPC which enables the drive's safety and physical limitations to be directly incorporated into control synthesis is presented. The simulation results show that the controller is very effective in regulating load speed for a wide-range of the changes of the load side inertia. The simulation studies are confirmed through a variety of experimental tests.

Security is an important aspect of modern information management systems. The crucial role of security in this systems demands the use of tools and applications that are thoroughly validated and verified. However, the testing phase is an effort consuming activity that requires reliable supporting tools for speeding up this costly stage. Access control systems, based on the integration of new and existing tools are available in the Service Development Environment (SDE). We introduce an Access Control Testing toolchain (ACT) for designing and testing access control policies that includes the following features: (ⅰ) the graphical specification of an access control model and its translation into an XACML policy; (ⅱ) the derivation of test cases and their execution against the XACML policy; (ⅲ) the assessment of compliance between the XACML policy execution and the access control model. In addition, we illustrate the use of the ACT toolchain on a case study.
