The mechanical behavior of a military vehicle during off-highway operation is complex and highly nonlinear. Some current vehicle concepts include added intelligence through the implementation of sensors and controllers to enable autonomous or semi-autonomous operations. Control systems have typically been developed with controls software where the mechanical plant and sensors are represented as simplified and often linearized blocks, resulting in a poor vehicle assessment. This paper describes the development of an integrated environment for a control system, mechanical system dynamics, and sensor simulation for an improved assessment of the vehicle system performance. The vehicle chosen is an autonomous robot that attempts to follow a prescribed path along an off-highway terrain. The effect of including a stability controller for vehicle mobility is assessed. The architecture of the integrated simulation environment is described and its potential to improve schedule and reduce risk of the development of mechatronic military vehicle systems is explored.

This paper describes an ultra-fast fiber optic pressure sensor based on the Fabry Perot principle for the application of measuring the rapid pressure changes in a blast event. A shock tube experiment performed in US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center has demonstrated that the resonant frequency of the sensor is 4.12 MHz, which is relatively close to the designed theoretical value of 4.113 MHz. Moreover, the experiment illustrated that the sensor has a rise time of 120 ns, which demonstrates that the sensor is capable of observing the dynamics of the pressure transient during a blast event.

4804.智能电网系统的分级高速微型发电机

This chapter presents a step by step sizing procedure of High Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (HSPMSGs) for smart grid applications to be driven by micro-turbines. The final design offers significant reductions in both weight and volume in a power range of 5-500 kW. A rotor length to diameter ratio is used as an important design parameter. The results are depicted by 3D plot figures for sizing of a number of machines. The simulation of generators sizing is performed using MATLAB. Then; it proposes the optimized sizing of (HSPMSGs) for the same applications. Unconstrained minimization for total losses; constrained optimized total mass with bounded constraints is introduced: a genetic algorithm is formulated for efficiency maximization; in the second genetic problem formulation, attempt is made to obtain minimum mass machine sizing that is constrained by the non-linear constraint function of machine losses; and finally, an optimum torque per ampere genetic sizing is predicted. For all optimization processes, three optimizing variables are selected. The optimized and genetic results are depicted in three-dimensional figures for initial and detailed sizing. The simulation of generator sizing is performed using MATLAB Optimization Toolbox and its Genetic Algorithm. Finally, six analytical design example comparisons are introduced with study of rotor losses.

The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) pathway plays an important role in breast cancer growth and metastasis. The IGF-I receptor (IGF-IR) is over- expressed in almost 50of triple negative breast cancers (TNBC). Thus, therapeutically targeting tumor cells which have upregulated IGF-IR may be a promising approach to treat TNBC. IGF-IR is immunogenic in breast cancer and is a potential target for active immunization. We sought to develop a vaccine that will elicit Th1 immunity to IGF-IR. Ninety-five percent of the peptides predicted to bind with high affinity to MHCII induced a Th1 immune response in human PBMC. However, since IGF-IR is a self tumor antigen, Th epitopes could potentially elicit either an inflammatory Th1 (i.e. IFN-g) or immunosuppressive Th2 (i.e. IL-10) response. A ratio of magnitude and frequency of ELISPOT responses for IFN-g and IL-10 was calculated. The peptides that demonstrated a preference to secrete IFN-g over IL-10 were located primarily in the C-terminus of IGF-IR. Vaccination with those C-terminal peptides in a mouse model of TNBC demonstrated a robust Th1 response and concomitant inhibition of tumor growth. These data suggest that more effective peptide-based vaccines could be designed when both Th1 epitopes and immunosuppressive epitopes are screened simultaneously.

Large-scale cyber-physical infrastructures, such as the Smart Power Grid, are envisioned as some of the core elements of the future Internet of Things. These critical infrastructures move more and more beyond centralized management and control by system operators and administrators. Overloading and failures in the Smart Power Grid threaten the matching of demand-supply especially when new emerging technologies are integrated such as micro-generation, renewable energy resources and electrical vehicles. The integration of these technologies in the Smart Power Grid make the concept of Internet of Things highly applicable in the energy domain. The introduction of automated and decentralized protection mechanisms requires embedded control elements that perform organizational reconfigurations themselves in a spatially distributed environment. The dynamic input and output binding between such control elements is an example of an organization reconfiguration that is traditionally managed offline during the design phase of a cyber-physical system. An introduced computational intelligence for the purpose of such organizational control reconfigurations requires the interoperation with the rest of the control logic during runtime. This book chapter illustrates a model that makes this interoperation possible: ALSOS-ICS, the Application-level Self-Organization Services for Internet-scale Control Systems. Four incremental protection levels for the robustness of the Smart Power Grid illustrate the requirements of organizational control reconfigurations and the applicability of ALSOS-ICS in this domain

This paper describes the design, analysis, and nonlinear simulation results (batch and piloted) for a longitudinal controller which is scheduled to be flight-tested on the High-Alpha Research Vehicle (HARV). The HARV is an F-18 airplane modified for and equipped with multi-axis thrust vectoring. The paper includes a description of the facilities, a detailed review of the feedback controller design, linear analysis results of the feedback controller, a description of the feed-forward controller design, nonlinear batch simulation results, and piloted simulation results. Batch simulation results include maximum pitch stick agility responses, angle of attack alpha captures, and alpha regulation for full lateral stick rolls at several alpha's. Piloted simulation results include task descriptions for several types of maneuvers, task guidelines, the corresponding Cooper-Harper ratings from three test pilots, and some pilot comments. The ratings show that desirable criteria are achieved for almost all of the piloted simulation tasks.

Space agency mission plans state the need to measure the seismic activity on Venus. Because of the high temperature on Venus (462° C average surface temperature) and the difficulty in placing and wiring multiple sensors using robots, a high temperature, wireless sensor using a wide bandgap semiconductor is an attractive option. This paper presents the description and proof of concept measurements of a high temperature, wireless seismometer sensor for Venus. A variation in inductance of a coil caused by the movement of an aluminum probe held in the coil and attached to a balanced leaf-spring seismometer causes a variation of 700 Hz in the transmitted signal from the oscillator/sensor system at 426° C. This result indicates that the concept may be used on Venus.

The present study attempts to demonstrate precisely the following points; a) Whether cellular constitution of a clonally cancer cell population is uniform as regards the degree of natural drug resistance; b) Whether the degree of drug resistance of cancer clone fluctuates during animal passages; and c) Whether any correlation is found between the degree of drug resistance and chromosomal constitution of cells in a cancer clone. The drug resistance under question in this case is not "acquired" but natural one.

This BAA is providing core program support to develop key capabilities of the Medical Device Plug-and-Play (MD PnP) Interoperability Program to lead medical device interoperability to support clinical solutions for improving patient safety and healthcare efficiency. Under MD PnP program leadership during the past year, a multi-institutional/industry working group submitted to FDA a Pre-IDE regulatory submission of a safe integrated medical device system; an updated version of the MD FIRE procurement language was signed by the VA and posted on our public website; the Clinical Landscape & Needs subgroup of the newly formed and FDA-sponsored Medical Device Interoperability Coordinating Council collected and shared clinical scenarios; we contributed materially to UL s proposed standard for certifiable safety of medical device interfaces; we collaborated with the VA, NIST, NSF, ONC, and others, including work with AAMI on standards and smart alarms initiatives.
