    The Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) is one of two instruments on the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM), which is scheduled to launch in February of 2013. The TIRS instrument was officially added to the mission later in the flow, which led to a highly aggressive schedule that became one of the main drivers during instrument development. The thermal subsystem design of the TIRS Sensor Unit is comprised of five thermal zones which range in temperature from less than 43 Kelvin to 330 Kelvin. Most zones are proportional heater controlled, and all are within a volume of 35 cu.ft. A two-stage cryocooler is used to cool the cold stage; including three QWIP detectors to less than 43 Kelvin, and cool the warm stage; to 105 Kelvin. The excess power dissipation from the cryocooler is rejected via ammonia transport heat pipes to a dedicated Cryocooler Radiator with embedded ammonia heat pipes. The cryogenic subsystem includes a series of shells used to radiatively and conductively isolate the cold stage from the warmer surroundings. The Optical System (telescope) is passively cooled to 180-190 Kelvin using a thermal link; (comprised of a Flexible Conductive Thermal Strap and an APG Bar) which couples the telescope stage to a dedicated radiator with embedded ethane heat pipes. The Scene Select Mechanism, which is responsible for moving the Scene Select Mirror to three distinct positions (including Nadir, Space, and On-board Black Body Calibrator pointing), runs nominally at 278 Kelvin and is thermally isolated from the cryogenic thermal zones. The On-board Black Body Calibrator requires a dedicated radiator which allows for a temperature range of 260-330 Kelvin at the Source. The detectors are powered by the FPE Box, which is mounted to the nadir external surface of the composite honeycomb structure. There are two additional electronics boxes which are wet-mounted directly to the spacecraft shear panel, the Main Electronics Box and Cryocooler Electronics Box; thermal control of these boxes is the responsibility of Orbital Sciences Corporation, the spacecraft developer. The TIRS thermal subsystem design was successfully verified during months of testing campaign, from component & subsystem level to two instrument-level thermal vacuum tests. The Instrument, despite an aggressive schedule, was delivered to the spacecraft vendor in February of 2012 and is currently undergoing the final stages of spacecraft environmental testing in preparation for launch.

    Vineyards are complex microclimate-affected cultivations that require the continuous and careful presence and intervention of farmers to guarantee the quality of the final product. Distributed monitoring systems may support the farmers' work by providing real-time and spatially dense measurements of climatic and plant-related parameters that influence the grape production. We propose a WSN-based monitoring system for grape production that, differently from what proposed in the literature, is characterized by adaptation to topological changes of the network due to permanent or transient faults that affect the sensor nodes, energy availability, and plug&play insertion or removal of units. Sensed data are remotely transmitted to a control room for storage, visualization and interpretation.

    In present era of railways transportation the presence of the railway signal system in railway networks makes the train control system much easier & safer. Today the all railway signal systems are based on electrical devices. In this paper we propose a new signal system for railway network which will be based on wireless sensor devices. Proposed frame work helps the train control mechanism to control the train even in low visibility weather condition like dust, haze, snow, heavy rain, fogginess conditions. In this paper we proposed the idea and the framework for the new wireless sensor device based signal system which can be implemented in modification in existing current signal systems.

    Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) possess inherent tradeoffs among conflicting performance objectives such as data yield, data fidelity and power consumption. In order to address this challenge, this paper proposes a biologically-inspired application framework for WSNs. The proposed framework, called El Nifio, models an application as a decentralized group of software agents. This is analogous to a bee colony (application) consisting of bees (agents). Agents collect sensor data on individual nodes and carry the data to base stations. They perform this data collection functionality by autonomously sensing their local network conditions and adaptively invoking biological behaviors such as pheromone emission, swarming, reproduction and migration. Each agent carries its own operational parameters, as genes, which govern its behavior invocation and configure its underlying sensor nodes. El Nino allows agents to evolve and adapt their operational parameters to network dynamics and disruptions by seeking the optimal tradeoffs among conflicting performance objectives. This evolution process is augmented by a notion of accelerated evolution. It allows agents to evolve their operational parameters by learning dynamic network conditions in the network and approximating their performance under the conditions. This is intended to expedite agent evolution to adapt to network dynamics and disruptions.

    Singals are usually post-processed in order to enhance their accuracy and reliability. For instance, sensor data from moving objects data are often processed by tracking systems which allows for enhancing the provided kinematic information. In high-level fusion systems, this kinematic information can be combined with additional domain-specific data which allows for detecting object behavior and threat patterns. These systems contribute to situation awareness by employing patterns which characterize situations of interest.

    The high penetration of wind farms in the transmission system causes difficulty for system operation such as voltage fluctuation, optimal system operation. In this study, the voltage fluctuation caused by output variation of wind farms (WF) is considered. In the conventional system, static condensers (SCs) play the role to keep the system voltage in the proper range with load change. Then, generation variation of WFs causes nodal to pass over the upper limit. Thus, the injected capacity of SCs is necessary to control for preventing overvoltage risk passing over the predefined value. The control capacity of SC is determined by loop calculation basing on sensitivity of SCs.
