In-process non-contact dimensional measurement is critical to the eventual rapid manufacture of fuel cell plates. This need has been identified by the Department of Energys Hydrogen Program, and by numerous manufacturers of fuel cell plates. To facilitate this effort, NIST has explored the use of noncontact systems for performing dimensional measurements so that manufacturers may perform 100part inspection during the manufacturing process. This paper describes a dedicated system developed at NIST for performing non-contact dimensional measurements of fuel cell plates using laser spot triangulation probes. This system utilizes two probes tilted in opposing directions so that each probe can detect one side wall of the channel and some portion of the channel bottom. Procedures have been developed to calibrate the system parameters (tilt angles of the probe, offsets between probes, etc.) so that the data from the two probes can be tied to a single coordinate system. A brief description of the system and preliminary measurement results are presented in this paper.

Within this very chapter, we are going to provide a short overview on the large amount of applications and technologies involved with the IEC 61850 standard family. Starting with its origins, developed parts, and sub-parts, we will later focus on the information and communication side of this standard family and current developments in information modeling that lead to changes in how to apply the standard family. The focus of this chapter is the application of IEC 61850 in the scope of substation automation and Distributed Energy Resources and differences between those two major use cases.

The selling price of electrical power varies with time. The economic viability of space solar power is maximum if the power can be sold at peak power rates, instead of baseline rate. Price and demand of electricity was examined from spot-market data from four example markets: New England, New York City, suburban New York, and California. The data was averaged to show the average price and demand for power as a function of time of day and time of year. Demand varies roughly by a factor of two between the early-morning minimum demand, and the afternoon maximum; both the amount of peak power, and the location of the peak, depends significantly on the location and the weather. The demand curves were compared to the availability curves for solar energy and for tracking and non-tracking satellite solar power systems in order to compare the market value of terrestrial and solar electrical power. In part 2, new designs for a space solar power (SSP) system were analyzed to provide electrical power to Earth for economically competitive rates. The approach was to look at innovative power architectures to more practical approaches to space solar power. A significant barrier is the initial investment required before the first power is returned. Three new concepts for solar power satellites were invented and analyzed: a solar power satellite in the Earth-Sun L2 point, a geosynchronous no-moving parts solar power satellite, and a nontracking geosynchronous solar power satellite with integral phased array. The integral-array satellite had several advantages, including an initial investment cost approximately eight times lower than the conventional design.

4404.固体氧化物燃料电池(SOFC)外部燃料处理器的耐久性测试

Durability testing was performed on an external fuel processor (EFP) for a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power plant. The EFP enables the SOFC to reach high system efficiency (electrical efficiency up to 60) using pipeline natural gas and eliminates the need for large quantities of bottled gases. LG Fuel Cell Systems Inc. (formerly known as Rolls-Royce Fuel Cell Systems (US) Inc.) (LGFCS) is developing natural gas-fired SOFC power plants for stationary power applications. These power plants will greatly benefit the public by reducing the cost of electricity while reducing the amount of gaseous emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen oxides compared to conventional power plants. The EFP uses pipeline natural gas and air to provide all the gas streams required by the SOFC power plant; specifically those needed for start-up, normal operation, and shutdown. It includes a natural gas desulfurizer, a synthesis-gas generator and a start-gas generator. The research in this project demonstrated that the EFP could meet its performance and durability targets. The data generated helped assess the impact of long-term operation on system performance and system hardware. The research also showed the negative impact of ambient weather (both hot and cold conditions) on system operation and performance.

We investigated the activity and stability of n=(1, 2, 3) platinum layers supported on a number of rutile metal oxides (MO2; M=Ti, Sn, Ta, Nb, Hf and Zr). A suitable oxide support can alleviate the problem of carbon corrosion and platinum dissolution in Pt/C catalysts. Moreover, it can increase the activity of platinum if the interaction between the support and the metal is optimal. We found that both the activity and the stability depend on the number of platinum layers and, as expected, both converge toward platinum bulk values if the number of layers is increased. With use of a simple volcano curve for activity estimation, we found that the supported platinum layers could be active for the oxygen reduction reaction, with a few candidates possibly having an activity even greater than that of platinum. Furthermore, we established a correlation between stability and activity for supported platinum monolayers, which suggests that activity can be increased at the expense of stability and vice versa. Finally, the performance of the systems was evaluated against Pt(111) skins on Pt3X (X=Ni, Co, Fe, Ti, Sc and Y) alloys, which are the best catalysts known to date for the reaction.

In this work it is proposed the design of a system to handle Distributed Energy Resources (DER), which is a new reality due to Electric Vehicles (EVs), Microgeneration (MG) and the open Electrical Markets (EM). This upcoming reality brings the need of the 'old' central energy control to be installed locally. For that we propose a local energy broker, responsible to handle local energy flow and to exchange energy with 'big' market players, and based on a collaborative approach, to promote user's participation to increase systems knowledge. The energy broker uses an Information Communication Technology (ICT) network to establish a collaborative communication between the involved parts.

The results of hydrogenation of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)-SnO2 composite, SWCNTs-WO3 composite, and SWCNTs-TiOs, are reported. The amount of hydrogen incorporated in the SWCNTs composites was determined and the dehydrogenation behavior was studied. The experimental evidences were provided by TEM, AFM, XRD, EDS, CHN and TG/TDS analyses.

The ltered approach is superior due to its generality, ease of use, and memory eciency, but may carry a performance cost.
