    This presentation briefly discusses application of the Root Raised Cosine (RRC) pulse shaping in the space telecommunication. Use of the RRC filtering (i.e., pulse shaping) is adopted in commercial communications, such as cellular technology, and used extensively. However, its use in space communication is still relatively new. This will possibly change as the crowding of the frequency spectrum used in the space communication becomes a problem. The two conflicting requirements in telecommunication are the demand for high data rates per channel (or user) and need for more channels, i.e., more users.

  • 3932.NASAGRC无人驾驶飞机系统(UAS)项目:通信建模与仿真状态研究

    As part of the effort to integrate UAS in the National Airspace, NASA Glenn Research Center is currently involved with providing research into Communications systems and Communication system operations in order to assist with developing requirements for this implementation. In order to provide data and information regarding communication systems performance that will be necessary, NASA GRC is tasked with developing and executing plans for simulations of candidate future UAS command and control communications, in line with architectures and communications technologies being developed and/or proposed by NASA and relevant aviation organizations (in particular, RTCA SC-203). The simulations and related analyses will provide insight into the ability of proposed communications technologies and system architectures to enable safe operation of UAS, meeting UAS in the NAS project goals (including performance requirements, scalability, and interoperability), and ultimately leading to a determination of the ability of NextGen communication systems to accommodate UAS.

  • 3933.服务机器人的半自动对象建模

    In the field of service robotics there is a high demand for high quality models of all the objects a service robot should be capable of handling. This is especially true for geometrical representations of objects that can be used for visualization and simulation. The acquisition of such models can be done using the sensors available on the robot or can be generated off line using specialized hardware. Currently the latter approach yields qualitatively better results for onboard sensors are still limited. In project DESIRE high quality models were needed to train the vision system as well as the manipulation capabilities of the demonstrator, thus a specialized sensor setup was constructed and used to generate 2D and 3D object models.

  • 3934.数字信号:为实现舰队通信的QR码光信号技术可行性研究

    This work proposes mitigating emissions vulnerability by utilizing a new method of optical communications at LOS visual ranges reminiscent of flag semaphore. Tactical QR code communications streaming digital data through optical signaling has the potential to provide tactical communications at a moderate range, allowing critical communications to be relayed to and from off-ship platforms. Additional technological advances can be used to overcome current range, security, reliability, and throughput barriers. This project demonstrates how a combination of essential technical capabilities can be used to establish a QR code communications system as a potentially useful approach for tactical operations.

  • 3935.NRL网络泵在减轻隐蔽时间信道的效果的特征

    The issue here is that HU can encode information in the 'timings' of the acknowledgements. The Pump aims at mitigating the covert timing channel by introducing buffering between HU and LU, as well as adding noise to the acknowledgment timings. We model the working of the Pump in certain situations, as a communication system with feedback and use then this perspective to derive an upper bound on the capacity of the covert channel between HU and LU in the Pump. This upper bound is presented in terms of a directed information flow over the dynamics of the system. We also present an achievable scheme that can transmit information over this channel. When the support of the noise added by Pump to acknowledgment timings is finite, the achievable rate is nonzero, i.e, infinite number of bits can be reliably communicated. If the support of the noise is infinite, the achievable rate is zero and hence finite number of bits can be communicated.

  • 3936.移动机器人路径规划中A*算法的修改

    Robot path planning is about finding a collision free motion from one position to another. Efficient algorithms for solving problems of this type have important applications in areas such as: industrial robotics, computer animation, drug design, and automated surveillance. In this paper, a modified A~* algorithm is used for optimizing the path. Different from the approaches that only choose the shortest routes, this method estimates the energy consumption and chooses the most energy efficient routes. As mobile robots are powered by batteries, their energy is limited. Therefore, how to minimize energy consumption is an important problem. The basic idea is to minimize unnecessary stops and turns for mobile robots that cause acceleration and deceleration and consumes significant energy. Simulation results are presented on various environments with different levels of complexity depending on the density of the obstacles. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated in terms of number of movement steps, path length, energy consumption, number of turns and time. The experimental results show that our approach can provide effective path by reducing the number of turns compared to A~*, thus saving energy. All paths generated were optimal in terms of length and smoothness.

    The CRADA is established to facilitate the development of solar thermal technology to efficiently and economically convert biomass into useful products (synthesis gas and derivatives) that can replace fossil fuels. NREL's High Flux Solar Furnace will be utilized to validate system modeling, evaluate candidate reactor materials, conduct on-sun testing of the process, and assist in the development of solar process control system. This work is part of a DOE USDA 3-year, $1M grant.

  • 3938.DESIRE项目中机器人的开发流程

    In this paper we give a general overview of the development process carried out in the DESIRE project. This process can be roughly split up into four main phases, from specification in the beginning over two integration phases up to optimisation in the end. With a large variety of technologies and expertises involved, the development of a complex service robot system such as the DESIRE technology platform proved to reveal many challenges on technical as well as organisational level. Several of these issues are highlighted in this paper with the goal to derive useful guidelines for other robotics projects.

  • 3939.通信网络中异构数据包传输的统计力学启发建模

    This paper presents the qualitative nature of communication network operations as abstraction of typical thermodynamic parameters . Specifically, statistical mechanics- inspired models of critical phenomena  for heterogeneous packet transmission are developed in terms of multiple intensive parameters, namely, the external packet load on the network system and the packet transmission probabilities of heterogeneous packet types. Network phase diagrams are constructed based on these traffic parameters, and decision and control strategies are formulated for heterogeneous packet transmission in the network system. In this context, decision functions and control objectives are derived in closed forms, and the pertinent results of test and validation on a simulated network system are presented.

    Using carbon dioxide from fossil fuel combustion as a feedstock for the growth, photosynthetic microorganisms can provide a large sink for carbon assimilation as well as a feedstock for the production of significant levels of biofuels. Combining microalgal farming with fossil fuel energy production has great potential to diminish carbon dioxide releases into the atmosphere, as well as contribute to the production of biofuels as well as valuable co-products such as animal feeds and green chemicals. CO2 capture may be a regulatory requirement in future new coal or natural gas power plants and will almost certainly become an opportunity for commerce, the results of such studies may provide industries in the US and Canada with both regulatory relief and business opportunities as well as the ability to meet environmental and regulatory requirements, and to produce large volumes of fuels and co-products.
