    The building energy consumption simulation software DeST is used to analyze the effects of fixed shading over external window on energy consumption and efficiency, on the base of a residential building in Shanghai.The simulation results show that the fixed shading over south window has little effect on the overall energy saving of residential building.For east and west external window, if window area is not very large and its shading performance is better, the effect of fixed shading installation on energy saving is not obvious.On the contrary, if its area is large and its shading performance is ordinary, the effect is remarkable.Furthermore, when room ventilation capacity is poor, the effect of energy saving by fixed shading installation is more prominent.

    Power electronic transformation system is applied widely in industrial control and the application environment is complex.Big,small and medium-sized system power consumption improves continuously,so it is urgent to reduce the system energy consumption problems.This paper proposes a way to reduce the energy consumption of power electronic transformation system based on genetic algorithm.Work frequency regulation and working voltage measurement technology are used in industrial control system and the voltage and frequency produced by system power consumption are calculated.Genetic algorithm is used to calculate the optimal solution.And then achieve the purpose of reducing energy consumption.Experimental results show that this control algorithm can effectively reduce the power consumption of power electronic transformation system in industrial control and has a good effect.

    The Energy Efficient Buildings Hub (EEBHub) uses Sankey diagrams to visually analyze energy use in the building of its headquarters, Building 101 (B101). This report describes B101 energy consumption and passive energy exchanges with the surrounding environment and through the building. For this initial Sankey diagram exercise, completed on January 31, 2013, the data/model integration was primarily performed by calibrating the EnergyPlus model to measured energy consumption data. The annual model is used as a starting point, while iterations of the EnergyPlus simulation provide results for January and July to demonstrate how energy use changes throughout the year. Annually, the Sankey diagram shows energy consumption from electricity and natural gas, as well as the end uses. The heating, cooling, and air handling are the largest sources of energy usage. Interior lighting and equipment are also considerable consumers of electricity. Seasonally, the trends of energy consumption are visually demonstrated by comparing January and June Sankey diagrams. As expected, winter requires heating via the boiler as the largest energy consumer, while much of the building heat is lost is to the exterior. The summer months have several sources of heat, both exterior and interior, to the building. Cooling is the largest consumer of electricity in July, followed by interior lighting and equipment, and the air handling. From these seasonal diagrams, it is easy to recognize the buildings interactions with its environment, and the strain that induces on its energy consumption. These visualizations help identify where equipment modifications (with better efficiencies) can reduce energy consumption. This report demonstrates the integration of multiple sources of data to output a broad picture of engineered and environmental fluxes of energy through the EEBHub. The outcomes of this project are to provide a building energy analysis on B101 that helps identify large sources of energy consumption, gaps in data, and provide opportunities to deploy energy saving technologies.

    Atmospheric deposition, a process that transfers pollutants, including NOx, SO2, and mercury, from the air to the earth's surface, can significantly impair the quality of the nation's waters. EPA can potentially address atmospheric deposition through the CWA and the CAA, but concerns have been raised about its ability to do so. GAO was asked to examine EPA's efforts to address atmospheric deposition of pollutants that impair waterbodies. This report examines (1) the extent to which atmospheric deposition of NOx, SO2, and mercury contributes to the impairment of the nation's waters and identify the key sources of these pollutants; (2) the regulatory tools that EPA uses under the CWA to address the effects of atmospheric deposition, and the challenges, if any, that it faces in doing so; and (3) the regulatory tools that EPA uses under the CAA to address the effects of atmospheric deposition, and the challenges, if any, that it faces in doing so. To conduct this work, GAO reviewed EPA data, reports, and activities and interviewed agency officials and other experts.

    The overall objective of this research has been to develop the capacity to predict how future climatic variation may affect carbon cycle processes and net CO2 exchange with the atmosphere at the Howland Forest, a temperate-boreal ecotonal forest that uniquely represents this ecosystem type in the AmeriFlux network. Major goals of the project have been to (1) provide a detailed characterization of C-cycle processes at Howland; (2) develop and test prognostic models to forecast future C-cycle processes; and (3) obtain defensible estimates of the uncertainties in measured and modeled C fluxes and pools.
