The Asia-Pacific biotech industry continued its strong performance in the first half of 2013,remaining one of the fastest emerging industries in the region and globally.Leading companies reported higher revenues as the stock prices of the top ten companies rose 21.5% on average over the last six months, with only one company seeing its share price fall. Due to economic challenges in Europe and the US, investors and foreign biotech firms shifted their focus to the Asia-Pacific with the potential for higher returns. IPO activity still lagged behind that of the US, due to governments providing easy access to various funding options and companies favoring M&As over IPOs due to higher returns and the benefits of long-term partnerships. The Asia-Pacific biotechnology industry continued to grow amid a sea of change in the global economy.

Over the last six months, Asia-Pacific’s largest banks continued to face adverse risks that included a low interest rate environment and an overflow of liquidity from global monetary easing. ? Although the Asia-Pacific continued to see strong real GDP growth relative to other regions, activity indicators in early 2013 suggested that the rebound that began in the second half of 2012 had lost some traction. Central banks in the Asia-Pacific geared their monetary policies towards growth as inflationary pressures began to recede. Japan experimented with a mix of monetary and fiscal policies as well as government spending to spur growth and to lift the country out of deflation. The People’s Bank of China eased reserve requirements that domestic banks need to hold against deposits.

Iodine is a mineral which is bluish-black in color. It has antiseptic and other medicinal properties, and is an important mineral essential for the human body. Naturally occurring sources of iodine are caliche ores in Chile and brine extracted from natural gas and oil fields. Iodine and its derivatives are utilized in a large number of applications, including as a catalyst in industrial applications, in pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, and animal feed supplements, and as a stabilizer for nylon resins.The Global Iodine market was significantly affected by the recent financial crisis. However, the market has recovered and is expected to grow steadily during the forecast period 2012-2016. In 2012, the APAC region accounted for the highest consumption of iodine with a market share of 40-44 percent. 据国际铅锌研究小组（ILZSG）最新公布的数据，2013年1-6月全球精锌消费量为644.8万吨，同比增长3.8%。1-6月消费量增幅最大的国家依次是印度、土耳其、中国和美国，增幅基本在10%左右。欧洲地区扭转了去年消费量下滑的局面，同比增长1.2%，尤其是作为欧洲第一大经济体的德国，保持了1.6%的增长率。而位于亚洲的韩国，精锌消费量较去年同期出现明显回落，同比下降4.7%。
