It is very important to obtain an ideal basic shape with optimal aerody namic characteristics in the auto-body styling design based on the whole shape optimization.Through obtaining the solutions for conflict problem in the auto-body styling aerodynamic design cooperating extension engineering, a variable cross-section method based on aero dynamic theoretical model to obtain ideal basic shape for car body is proposed.A theory model based on aerodynamics is developed.In addition, a generation method for a series of ideal basic bodies with favorable aerodynamic characteristics is developed, which enables the generation of these basic bodies by a variable cross-section method.This method is finally realized and it is shown in the evaluation that it is a new way for the auto-body styling design based on whole shape optimization.

The main content of gear design is the strength design, and the contact strength design of gears is the main heart of the strength design, because the stress and deformation of gears directly affect their safety and service life and concern whether vehicle transmissions work smoothly. Therefore it is necessary to perform a finite element analysis for the gear contact in transmission. Based on the contact characteristic of helical gears, a three-dimensional solid model was established by using the software Pro/E, and the contact stress analysis of gears was carried out by the software ANSYS Workbench. The stress and strain distribution contours of helical gears were obtained , and then the check of strength and rigidity was performed. Thus, it is convenient for designers both to test the strength of gears and to modify the size of gears.

Based on the research of the CAN/LIN bus communication protocol,an automobile lamps diagnostic system based on the CAN/LIN bus is designed.After the completion of the software and hardware designs of CAN nodes,LIN nodes and CAN/LIN nodes,the faults of automobile lamps can be successfully diagnosed.LIN node collects light switches and the gateway controls the car light's status via detecting the data frame on the LIN bus.The design and complementation of CAN node,LIN node and CAN/LIN gateway was finished,which made it possible to detect failures in vehicle.

At present,the traffic engineering and automation have developed,and the vehicle license plate recognition technology need get a corresponding improvement also.In case of identifying a car license picture,the principle of automatic license plate recognition is illustrated in this paper,and the processing is described in detail which includes the pre-processing,the edge extraction,the license plate location,the character segmentation,the character recognition.The program implementing recognition is edited by Matlab.The example result shows that the recognition method is feasible,and it can be put into practice.

When the quality of service (QoS) of an unmanned air vehicle's (UAV) communications link is poor, and the UAV is tracking a moving target, a trade- off exists between the fidelity and timeliness of information provided from the vehicle to an operator. The authors' 2011 ICCRTS paper showed that an optimal representation scheme for transmitting information from UAV to operator can be found by using information theory. This paper extends that work by introducing an adaptive, autonomous UAV command and control system that autonomously changes the fidelity of information communicated to an operator in response to variances in communications QoS. Results and analysis of hardware-in-the-loop experiments using a UAV that is tracking a moving car are presented. The paper also examines the impact of information decay and network performance on both human tele-operation and on-board autonomous control, comparing the relative performance of tele-operation and autonomy as a function of entropic drag, which is a measurement, in information theory 'bits,' of the rate at which information is lost due to unpredictable changes in the environment. In the experiments described in this paper, entropic drag is produced by the movement of the vehicle being tracked.

This report discusses light-vehicle crash countermeasure profiles and functions for five target pre-crash scenario groups based on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. Target pre-crash scenario groups include rear-end, lane change, opposite direction, junction crossing, and left turn across path from opposite direction (LTAP/OD) crashes involving at least one light vehicle (e.g., passenger car, van, minivan, sport utility vehicle, or light pickup truck with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less). There are 10 pre-crash scenarios in these groups to be addressed by V2V-based crash countermeasures. Kinematic equations are presented for the time-to-collision and avoidance maneuvers to identify information needs for these crash countermeasures. Information needs are translated into countermeasure functional requirements based on relevant safety applications devised in two prior research projects dealing with cooperative V2V communications and autonomous vehicle-based sensing systems. This report identifies two target pre-crash scenarios that would require new safety applications not developed in prior projects, including the LTAP/OD and opposite direction/no vehicle maneuver pre-crash scenarios.
