The aluminum industry value chain consists of both upstream and downstream companies. Upstream companies’ operations include mining (extraction of bauxite) and refining (deriving alumina from bauxite). The commonly used process for extracting bauxite is Bayer process. The alumina obtained from bauxite is used as a raw material for making aluminum. Downstream operations include casting, smelting, and fabricating the refined alumina.
