VHA's logistics program is responsible for the management of medical supplies and equipment in VAMC's inventories and the standardization of such items throughout VHA. Previous reports have pointed to deficiencies in VHA's logistics program. GAO assessed (1) the extent to which VAMCs and networks have complied with new VHA requirements to remedy known deficiencies in its logistics program and (2) VHA's progress in enhancing its logistics program. GAO reviewed documents and interviewed officials to identify new requirements affecting VHA's logistics program. GAO then visited a nongeneralizable sample of five VAMCs and verified the extent to which the VAMCs and corresponding networks, which oversee VAMCs, were complying with VHAs new requirements. GAO also reviewed documentation of VHAs plans for funding, implementing, and evaluating efforts it is undertaking to enhance its logistics program, examined the extent to which VHA was on track to execute those plans, and assessed VHA's efforts against criteria in GAO's standards for internal control in the federal government.

Healthcare information systems have been designed to increase the efficiency and safety of healthcare processes. Systems such as electronic health records and pervasive computing devices have been shown to improve the safety of healthcare. However, increasing research has indicated that the design of such systems, in particular the user interface, may be related to increased incidence of other types of error. In this review, the relationship between human factors and usability will be considered in the context of designing safe and effective healthcare applications, with a focus on hand-held computing devices. Medline was searched for the specific terms listed below and restricted to the date ranges 2006-01-01 through to 2011-03-03: (error AND technology AND human factors); (error AND (CPOE OR (Computerized AND provider AND order AND entry))); (Technology AND Induced AND Error). The returned list of papers was screened by examining titles and abstracts to select candidate papers for further review. The initial search yield was 239 papers. On reviewing the title and abstract, 186 were rejected and 51 papers remained for analysis. New technology, such as CPOE, offers improvements over traditional paper tools and it is shown to have a positive effect on patient safety. New technology also creates the opportunity for new errors to occur and lead to the coining of the term "technology-induced error". The magnitude of the usability-testing needs is larger than it may seem.

The mobile agent route is essentially a multi-constraint optimization problem,Genetic Algorithms has fast random global search ability,but the feedback information of the system does not use and has the problem of low efficiency of finding exact solutions,propose a genetic hybrid ant colony algorithm for WSN mobile agent route.Use of the fast random global search capabilities of genetic algorithm to find better solutions,then the better solution replaced by the initial pheromone of the ant colony algorithm,finally use the advantages of convergence speed of ant colony algorithm to find the global optimal solution for mobile agent route.Simulation results show that the algorithm can find optimal mobile agent route in a relatively short time,relative to other routing algorithms,reducing network latency and average energy consumption,improving the speed and efficiency of data transfer.

Revealing the patterns and determinants of the spread of dengue virus (DENV) at local scales is central to understanding the epidemiology and evolution of this major human pathogen. We performed a phylogenetic analysis of the envelope (E) genes of DENV-1, -2, -3, and -4 isolates (involving 97, 23, 5, and 74 newly collected sequences, respectively) sampled from school-based cohort and village-based cluster studies in Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand, between 2004 and 2007. With these data, we sought to describe the spatial and temporal patterns of DENV spread within a rural population where a future vaccine efficacy trial is planned. Our analysis revealed considerable genetic diversity within the study population, with multiple lineages within each serotype circulating for various lengths of time during the study period. These results suggest that DENV is frequently introduced into both semi-urban and rural areas in Kamphaeng Phet from other populations. In contrast, the persistence of viral lineages across sampling years was observed less frequently. Analysis of phylogenetic clustering indicated that DENV transmission was highly spatially and temporally focal, and that it occurred in homes rather than at school. Overall, the strength of temporal clustering suggests that seasonal bottlenecks in local DENV populations facilitate the invasion and establishment of viruses from outside of the study area, in turn reducing the extent of lineage persistence.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) sensor systems have gained much interest in the aerospace community as potentially enabling technologies for reducing maintenance costs while maintaining flight safety of aging structures. Many candidate SHM technologies are essentially damage detection systems, i.e. variations of well-established NDI methods such as ultrasonics, electro- magnetic (eddy current), and acoustic emission. Still others employ displacement detection such as strain-sensing and dynamic vibration sensing. Unfortunately, the path for transition onto United States Air Force (USAF) weapon systems is not well defined. Before SHM technologies can be qualified for fleet-wide usage, these systems must demonstrate their capability to meet performance requirements in terms of detection capability, reliability, and safety while and providing an economic benefit. Ultimately the qualification program must be sufficiently robust to support an airworthiness certification decision. This document provides guidance for the demonstration and qualification of permanently mounted damage detection systems intended for use on USAF aircraft. More specifically, this document will (a) focus on applications where damage tolerance principles are used to manage structural integrity, (b) propose a task-based approach for system qualification, and (c) identify existing Air Force policies that define the path for modification management and obtaining airworthiness certification approval.

The purpose of this study is to identify if task saturation in Critical Care Air Transport Teams (CCATTs) occurs. CCATTs play an essential role in the delivery of en route care and are specially trained by the U.S. Air Force to care for patients in a variety of platforms. Given the complex patient care environment, the hypothesis is that the occurrence of task saturation would be associated with task and equipment management. The combination of high patient acuity, stress of flight, and need for expertise with a wide assortment of medical equipment raised the concerns that these teams may be at risk for task saturation during the delivery of en route care. This, in turn, may lead to degradation in team performance and patient care. The potential occurrence of task saturation during CCATT missions is of critical importance, as it may lead to degradation in the quality of patient care.

The intelligent agriculture is one of the applications of Internet of Things (IOT),which has an extensive application and bright foreground.ZigBee Alliance formulated the ZigBee standards in the wireless sensor network tec hnology,that are recognized widely as authoritative standard of the Internet of Things,but ZigBee nodes,as the important unit of an intelligent monitoring system for agricultural environment,are the basic unit to reali ze the monitoring functi on.The paper briefly presents the architecture of ZigBee technology,designs the hardware architecture of ZigBee nodes on CC2531 (ZigBee coordinator and end node) and the software architecture of ZigBee nodes,and implements on botanical garden in QiongZhou University.The actual test result dermnstrates that the nodes can obtain the temperature,hum idity and illumination information in real tim e,and then transferred to the remote monitoring center.It has better actual application value.

Recent advances in sensor and recording technology have allowed scientists to acquire very large time-series datasets. Researchers often analyze these datasets in the context of events, which are intervals of time where the properties of the signal change relative to a baseline signal. We have developed DETECT, a MATLAB toolbox for detecting event time intervals in long, multi-channel time series. Our primary goal is to produce a toolbox that is simple for researchers to use, allowing them to quickly train a model on multiple classes of events, assess the accuracy of the model, and determine how closely the results agree with their own manual identification of events without requiring extensive programming knowledge or machine learning experience. As an illustration, we discuss application of the DETECT toolbox for detecting signal artifacts found in continuous multi-channel EEG recordings and show the functionality of the tools found in the toolbox. We also discuss the application of DETECT for identifying irregular heartbeat waveforms found in electrocardiogram (ECG) data as an additional illustration.

This paper presents a web tool for text mining of biomedical literature using clustering and support vector machines. The study is specific to the domain of Peptidases, based on curated literature. It has been evaluated the use of ontologies in the text mining and feature selection process, and the preliminary results show that the classifier performance may be improved along with a reduction of the number of features.
