In conclusion, in this chapter, we have reviewed the development of high-performance fiber nanosensors for environmental monitoring applications, realized by the combination of advanced nanostructured coatings based on SWCNTs with the optical fiber technology.In particular, the chapter starts with a wide review of the state of the art of carbon nanotube-based sensors for environmental monitoring, followed by a description of the operating principle of the fiberoptic nanosensors in the FP-type reflectometric configuration. The attention is then focused on the methods so far proposed for the integration of such nanostructured materials with the optical fibers and in particular on the LB deposition, which is the technique we adopted for the fiber-optic nanosensors fabrication.

This chapter discusses one engineering application of polybenzoxazines as a highly thermally conductive electronic packaging encapsulant. The combination of various useful properties of benzoxazine resins and their resulting polymers has been demonstrated to render a very high thermally conductive polymer composite. Thermal conductivity value as high as 32.5 W/mK in hexagonal boron nitride-filled polybenzoxazine, up to present, remains the highest reported thermal conductivity value in the literature. Other outstanding properties of the resulting composites as an electronic packaging encapsulant are also discussed in this chapter.

With the widespread use of watermark in video,audio and image,propose a relational database based watermark embedding and extraction method.The algorithm utilizes the singlemultiple mapping approach to plug in watermark,which scatter the distribution of watermark information and enhance the anti-attack ability of the algorithm.The experiments show that the method enjoys strong robustness to such attacks as tuples resorting,subset selection and so on.

2668.生物医学设备的新一代:FPGA

This chapter aims to broaden the bridge that covers the gap between the biomedical science community and engineers, by encouraging the developers and the users of biomedical equipment to apply at a large scale and to promote the Field-Programmable Gate Array technology. One provides a brief recall of this technology and of its key advantages: high electrical performances (great complexity, high speed, low energy consumption, etc.), extremely short time-to-market, high reliability even in field conditions, flexibility, portability, standardization, etc. A tutorial description of the FPGA development methodology is also provided. Some of the most successful FPGA applications in this field are mentioned: medical imaging, minimally-invasive surgery platforms, radio-frequency identification, etc.

Real-time chemical vapor detection and analysis have broad applications in environmental monitoring, homeland security, military surveillance, and biomedical diagnosis. As an emerging new sensing technology, optical micro-ring resonator has unique advantages in developing low-cost and portable vapor sensors. This chapter introduces ring resonator vapor sensing principles, describes representative micro-ring resonator vapor sensor designs and performances, and then focuses on one special micro-ring resonator design—the optofiuidic ring resonator (OFRR), which inherently integrates the ring resonator vapor sensor and gas fluidics. The OFRR sensor has fast response to a wide spectrum of vapor analytes, with a detection limit of around 100pg. Moreover, the OFRR is a versatile sensing platform that can be integrated with micro-gas chromatography (μGC) for rapid and in situ identification of organic chemical compounds (VOCs) in complex interfering vapor mixtures. Combination with a μGC system greatly enhances the vapor detection specificity, which is one of the major limitations in optical vapor sensors. Applications of the OFRR-μGC in detection of explosives and rapid tandem-column separation of VOCs are also presented. Future research/development directions in the ring resonator vapor sensor are discussed in the end.

Removal of two macronutrients, nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), from wastewater is critical before discharging the treated effluent to prevent eutrophication. But N and P are also essential components of any fertilizer; thus their recovery from wastewater will be an added bonus. This is especially critical for P since it is a non-renewable resource and its supply potential is getting diminished. For any process to have the ability to recover N and P from wastewater, it should be able to selectively remove the target ion containing N (NK_4~+_-N in this case) from a background of competing cations that may be present at a higher concentration (primarily Na~+ and Ca~(2+)) and the target ion containing P (H_2PO_4~- or HPO_4~2) which faces strong competition from competing anions such as Cl- and SO_4~(2-). Moreover, selective removal of NH_4~+_-N and P are not enough; the process should be efficiently able to desorb N and P to produce a small-volume, high concentration, regenerating solution. And finally, a solid-phase fertilizer of high purity should be extractable from the regenerating solution. On top of this, if the remaining regenerant solution can be reused in the next cycle, this process would be highly sustainable. Details of a process are provided where an inorganic zeolite (clinoptilolite) and a polymeric anion exchanger impregnated with iron oxide nanoparticles and preloaded with Cu as a selective ligand for phosphate are used to achieve selective N and P removal. The exchangers are efficiently regenerated with a combination of NaCl and NaOH and a solid-phase, high-purity fertilizer as MgNH_4PO_4 (struvite) is extracted. Three hybrid polymers were studied for P removal and recovery: HAIX, DOW-HFO, and DOW-HFO-Cu. Each material combines the durability, robustness, and ease-of-use of a polymeric ion-exchanger with the high sorption affinity of Hydrated Ferric Oxide (HFO) towards P. DOW-HFO-Cu was found to be the most efficient exchanger for removal of P. This was because both the HFO and the Cu, selective ligands for Cu sorption, acted in combination, thus providing maximum overall selectivity. The regenerating solution can be reused in the next cycle, thus creating a sustainable process with minimal waste effluent.
