    The Asia-Pacific holds a wealth of opportunities for the heavy construction sector. According to the Asian Development Bank Institute, developing economies in the Asia-Pacific could gain significantly from the expansion of transport, communications and energy infrastructure. With annual investment of around US$800 billion from 2010 to 2020, countries in the region could reap welfare gains of at least US$1.62 trillion in 2020, or 10% of projected aggregate gross domestic product (GDP). Changing demographics, rising populations, urbanization and growing standards of living have buoyed public and private infrastructure investment and spending in recent years. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asiaand the Pacific estimates Asian countries will need to spend in excess of US$600 billion annually to address new development needs.
