The paper presents the concept of path planning of unmanned flight the helicopter type of flying object. The presented method is based on probabilistic robot motion planning method called B-PPT. Method B-PPT is built upon the known methods of PRM (Probabilistic Roadmap) and RRT (Rapidly-exploring Random Trees). Using the method of B-PPT can plan the path of mobile robots and manipulation. Planning the path of a flying object was carried out in Cartesian space, taking into account only the position and altitude. The speed of the method depends on two input variables, ie the configuration space discretization step and set number of randomly generated configurations. Effect of size on the results obtained was presented in this work.

In this chapter we shall discuss how a low-cost robot can be indigenously developed in the laboratory with special functionalities. Especially, the development of two types of PIC microcontroller based sensor systems that can be integrated with a robot will be discussed in detail in this regard. One of them will be the development of an IR range finder system that can be developed with dynamic range enhancement capability. The second one will be the development of an optical proximity detector system which utilizes the principle of switching mode synchronous detection technique.

Work under this center grant consisted of 9 projects directed toward the development and translation of biomedical photonics technologies to address Joint Force Health Protection (JFHP) capability gaps for combat trauma and critical care that have been identified by the Secretary as requiring medical R&D. These efforts include Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy (DOSI) detection for hemorrhagic shock, cytochrome c oxidase, and dehydration; Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Multiphoton Microscopy (MPM) for evaluation of airway injury; Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging (SDFI) and Laser Speckle Imaging (LSI) for imaging of burns, wounds and reconstructive surgery; a continuous, real time, minimally invasive Lactate/pCO2/pO2 patient sensor; and assessment of nitrosyl-cobinamide with and without low level light therapy for acceleration of wound healing.

All of the parties who conduct or have oversight responsibilities for biomedical researchsponsors, clinical investigators, and institutional review boards (IRBs)have responsibility for ensuring that the research complies with applicable laws and regulations and that risks to subjects are minimized. Although selection of clinical investigators and research sites, and determining if an investigational new drug application (IND) or investigational device exemption (IDE) is required are viewed primarily as sponsor responsibilities, FDA is issuing this guidance to clarify IRBs' responsibilities related to these activities and to encourage all parties to work together in order to protect the rights and welfare of study subjects. FDAs guidance documents, including this guidance, do not establish legally enforceable responsibilities. Instead, guidances describe the agencys current thinking on a topic and should be viewed only as recommendations, unless specific regulatory or statutory requirements are cited. The use of the word should in agency guidances means that something is suggested or recommended, but not required. To enhance protection of human subjects and reduce regulatory burden, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) and FDA have been actively working to harmonize the agencies regulatory requirements and guidance for human subject research.

The CDC and National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) manual describes biosafety recommendations for work involving highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), CDC. Biosafety in microbiological and biomedical laboratories, 5th ed. Atlanta, GA: CDC; 2009. HHS publication no. (CDC) 21-1112. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Guidelines for Avian Influenza Viruses builds on the BMBL manual and provides additional biosafety and biocontainment guidelines for laboratories working with HPAI (US Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Agricultural Select Agent Program. Guidelines for avian influenza viruses. Washington, DC: US Department of Agriculture; 2011). The recommendations in this report, which are intended for laboratories in the United States, outline the essential baseline biosafety measures for working with the subset of influenza viruses that contain a hemagglutinin (HA) from the HPAI influenza A/goose/Guangdong/1/96 lineage, including reassortant influenza viruses created in a laboratory setting. All H5N1 influenza virus clades known to infect humans to date have been derived from this lineage. The biosafety recommendations in this report were developed by CDC with advice from the Intragovernmental Select Agents and Toxins Technical Advisory Committee, which is a panel composed of federal government subject-matter experts, and from public input received in response to the request for information that was published in the Federal Register on October 17, 2012 (US Department of Health and Human Services, CDC. Influenza viruses containing the hemagglutinin from the Goose/ Guangdong/1/96 lineage; proposed rule; request for information and comment. 42 CFR, Part 73. Federal Register 2012;77:637835). Work with HPAI H5N1 virus should be conducted, at a minimum, at biosafety level 3 (BSL-3), with specific enhancements to protect workers, the public, animal health, and animal products. Original clinical specimens suspected of containing viruses of this lineage can only be handled at BSL-2 if the procedures do not involve the propagation of the virus. An appropriate biosafety level should be determined in accordance with a biosafety risk assessment. Additional information on performing biosafety risk assessments and establishing effective biosafety containment is available in the BMBL manual.

When realizing gestural interaction in a typical living environment there often is an offset between user-perceived and machine-perceived direction of pointing, which can hinder reliable selection of elements in the surroundings. This work presents a support system that provides visual feedback to a freely gesturing user; thus enabling reliable selection of and interaction with reactive elements in intelligent environments. We have created a prototype that is showcasing this feedback method based on gesture recognition using the Microsoft Kinect and visual support provision using a custom built laser-robot. Finally an evaluation has been performed, in order to prove the efficiency of such a system, acquire usability feedback and determine potential learning effects for gesture-based interaction.

An efficiency of an multi-robot systems depends on proper coordinating tasks of all robots. This paper presents a game theoretic approach to modelling and solving the pick-up and collection problem. The classical form of this problem is modified in order to introduce the aspect of an uncertainty related to an information about the workspace inside of which robots are intended to perform the task. The process of modelling the problem in game theoretic framework, as well as cooperative solution to the problem is discussed in thise paper. Results of exemplary simulations are presented to prove the suitability of theapproach presented.

Novel care-technologies possess a transformational potential. Future care and support may be provided via monitoring technologies such as smart devices, sensors, actors (robots) and Information and Communication Technologies. Such technologies enable care provision outside traditional care institutions, for instance in the homes of patients. Health monitoring may become "personalized" i.e. tailored to the needs of individual care recipients' but may also alter relations between care providers and care recipents, shape and form the care environment and influence values central to health-care. Starting out from a social constructivist theory of technology, an interactive ethical assessment-model is offered. The suggested model supplements a traditional analysis based on normative ethical theory (top-down approach) with interviews including relevant stakeholders (a bottom-up approach). This method has been piloted by small-scale interviews encircling stakeholder perspectives on three emerging technologies: Careousel, a smart medicine-management device, Robot Giraff, an interactive and mobile communication-device and I-Care, a care-software that combines alarm and register system. By incorporating stakeholder perspectives into the analysis, the interactive ethical assessment model provides a richer understanding of the impact of PHM-technologies on ethical values than a traditional top-down model. If the assessment is conducted before the technology has reached the market - preferably in close interaction with developers and users - ethically sound technologies may be obtained.
