CNG is a low-carbon fuel for automobiles, and CNG-fuelled automobiles can be used as alternative fuel vehicles. Natural gas is an organic compound that is found deep within the earth, and it mainly consists of methane. In a CNG vehicle, natural gas is compressed and put into the vehicle through a gas dispenser. The CNG then runs through high-pressure cylinders and enters the engine compartment of the vehicle, which helps the vehicle start functioning. Although CNG is not the most pollution-free form of energy, vehicles that run on it produce relatively less harmful gases than vehicles that run on gasoline or diesel. The CO2 and non-methane hydrocarbon emissions of CNG vehicles are lower than those of conventional fuel vehicles by 25 percent and 50 percent, respectively.

2013年8月，我国汽车产销总体延续了2013年前7个月的较快稳定增长态势。乘用车产销高于上月水平，比上年同期增速超过10%，总体表现较好。商用车产销总体表现仍然较好，环比、同比继续保持增长。中国品牌乘用车市场表现略有好转，8月市场占有率环比、同比均小幅提升，自主品牌轿车市场份额仍居于德系之下。小排量乘用车市场份额环比有所提升，但低于上年同期。7月我国汽车企业出口量同比继续明显下滑，降幅有所扩大，月度出口已连续四个月低于上年同期水平，形势不容乐观。全国汽车市场价格继续小幅下降，国产汽车与进口汽车价格双双走低。经济效益方面，2013年1-7月，汽车工业17家重点企业（集团）主要经济指标呈不同程度增长，部分指标增幅与1-6月相比有所回落。
