According to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), the total vehicle output of the region’s top seven producing countries — China, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia — more than doubled from 1999 to over 42 million in 2012, accounting for almost half of the world’s auto output. China was the world’s biggest auto producer and market for the fourth consecutive year. In 2011, China produced 19.3 million vehicles, accounting for 23% of global auto output. Japan’s global ranking in auto production remained in the third. In 2012, Japan churned out 9.9 million cars, compared to US’s 10.3 million cars.
