This X-File consolidates knowledge on technologies that were evaluated during the ExFOB process in close cooperation with the Commandant's Expeditionary Energy Office (E2O). These technologies have proven to reduce the logistic footprint of Marines operating from austere operating locations in Afghanistan. Knowledgeable employment of renewable energy technology currently available to the Marine Corps can reduce a unit's demand for outside logistical support as it conducts combat operations from austere and remote locations. Minimizing the logistical support to forward operating units can enhance the ability of the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) to function throughout the range of military operations.

The goal of the study is a practical framework to help local governments within the Appalachian Region assess, plan, and finance energy efficiency infrastructure and facility improvements. Chapter 1 identifies institutions and the tools they offer for implementing energy and water efficiency. To select the ones most valuable for local governments, tools had to meet four criteria: longevity (established track record and adequate future funding); credible content evolving in response to user needs; customer assistance and partnership potential; and low- or no-cost status. Each of these criteria is explained more fully at the beginning of the chapter. Chapter 2 provides examples of eight energy conservation measures (ECMs)--with documented costs and financial returns--being implemented in or near the Appalachian Region. Cost savings for each ECM are also extrapolated to reflect potential savings across the Appalachian Region if local governments adopted, to some degree.

Parker Precision Cooling Business Unit was awarded a Department of Energy grant (DE-EE0000412) to support the DOE - ITP goal of reducing industrial energy intensity and GHG emissions. The project proposed by Precision Cooling was to accelerate the development of a cooling technology for high heat generating electronics components. These components are specifically related to power electronics found in power drives focused on the inverter, converter and transformer modules. The proposed cooling system was expected to simultaneously remove heat from all three of the major modules listed above, while remaining dielectric under all operating conditions. Development of the cooling system to meet specific customers requirements and constraints not only required a robust system design, but also new components to support long system functionality. Components requiring further development and testing during this project included pumps, fluid couplings, cold plates and condensers. All four of these major categories of components are required in every Precision Cooling system. Not only was design a key area of focus, but the process for manufacturing these components had to be determined and proven through the system development. The Precision Cooling Business Unit identified a few key projects to be the focus of the DOE grant. The first key project was to develop a cooling system for low voltage industrial drives used for power conversion and inversion. These systems utilize insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) to complete switching at very high frequencies in a small amount of space. The use of IGBTs results in relatively high amounts of heat needing to be dissipated, or removed, from the electrical device efficiently. Water and air have been used for cooling these devices, but require the device to be de-rated at elevated ambient temperatures, because they do not have the thermal capacity of Parkers Vaporizable Dielectric Fluid (VDF) cooling system.

中东非洲地区天然气储量丰富,是全球重要的天然气产地和出口地。近年来,中国天然气占一次能源消费中的比重逐步提高,天然气进口总量也迅速增长,中东非洲地区已经成为我国进口LNG的主要来源地之一。未来随着东部沿海地区在建LNG接收站生产能力的释放,我国从中东非洲地区进口LNG还存在较大的增长空间,中国与中东非洲地区在天然气领域的合作将在中国能源安全保障中占有更加重要的地位。从保障能源安全角度出发,建议中国政府和油气企业实施中东非洲地区长期天然气合作战略,灵活利用多种合作形式参与该地区特别是东非地区的天然气资源开发,同时适度增加LNG储备、加快推进国内天然气定价机制改革进程。

Sunlight is the most abundant source of potential energy on the planet. If harnessed properly, sunlight could easily exceed current and future electricity demand. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, every hour, enough energy
from the sun reaches Earth to meet the world's energy usage for an entire year. Creating solar power by converting sunlight into electricity would lower emissions from electricity generation and decrease long-term energy costs. As solar power becomes more cost-effective, it has the potential to make up a larger share of growing U.S. energy needs. And as it expands in usage, there will be a growing need for more workers- manufacturing workers to make solar panels, construction workers to build power plants, solar photovoltaic installers to install solar panels, and so on. This article provides information on the process of generating solar power and details various occupations in the solar industry. The first section details a brief history of solar power in the United States, followed by an overview of how solar power is generated, which entities use it, and the technology involved in supplying solar power. The second section provides occupational information highlighting a brief job description of several noteworthy occupations in that are related to solar power; the credentials needed to work in the occupation, such as education, training, certification, or licensure; and wage data. Occupations are listed under relevant occupational categories such as manufacturing, construction, installation, etc.
