This chapter presents a detailed, step-by-step demonstration of how vision-based navigation modules can be actually implemented in real life, under 32-bit Windows environment. These lessons start with a simple development of capturing image frames from a running video and then gradually proceeds to more complex tasks of incorporating image processing capabilities e.g. filtering techniques, contrast enhancement, adaptive thresholding etc. Then the lessons demonstrate how to extract path for the robot from such images and how a rule-based approach can be utilized to determine left and right wheel speed settings of a differential drive system.

Light field (multi-view) displays are often designed to support horizontal parallax only (HPO) since this significantly reduces complexity compared to full parallax, and is commonly assumed to only cause small losses in 3D perceptual quality. In reality all HPO displays can produce severe geometric distortions because they use different projections in the horizontal and vertical directions. These distortions depend of observer's position, and can only be eliminated in pre-defined viewing distances. In this paper we extend previous work on the theoretical analysis of the problem to create tools to manage the problem, enabling creators of multi-view 3D content to keep the distortion within acceptable ranges for all objects in a 3D scene, and all expected viewing positions. We present examples of simulated views of HPO displays, which demonstrate how the distortions can affect visual appearance, and how they are managed.

When you think about cloud computing and software testing, you want to be able to testfrom two perspectives — testing applications and services before they are released andtesting after they are released. Pre-release cloud service testing is not trivial because cloudcomputing opens up the potential for highly distributed computing running on some opaqueand heterogeneous infrastructures. Also, the structure of cloud computing itself has spawneda range of new services that can be used to facilitate testing; for example, the elasticity of thecloud improves load and performance testing by allowing developers to rapidly and cheaplyscale their software. In this article, the author describes the interplay of cloud computing andsoftware testing from these two perspectives.

Cloud service providers negotiate with customers to set a minimum of 99.9 percent as theguaranteed service availability level, but the range that falls in the guaranteed service levelscomplicates management of service level agreements because partner relationships can befull of complex variables. One of those variables is accumulative errors from rounding andtruncation in the calculations. The author presents a solution to this set of problems: Usenumerical analysis of performance data to obtain approximate solutions while you maintainreasonable bounds on errors as part of an SLA standardization effort.
