This paper presents an immersive visualization tool that helps anatomists to establish a ground truth for brain white matter Fiber bundles. Each step of a progressive anatomical dissection of human brain hemisphere is acquired using a high resolution 3D laser scanner and a photographic device. Each resulting surface is textured with a high resolution image and registered into a common 3D space using fiducial landmarks. Surfaces can be visualized using stereoscopic hardware and are interactively selectable. The tool allows the user to identify specific fiber bundle parts. Extracted fiber bundles are stacked together and rendered in stereoscopy with the corresponding MR volume. Surgeons have validated this tool for creating ground truth in medical imaging with the perspective of validating tractography algorithms.

Health-related information, much of it consisting of images, is being predominantly accessed online by diverse groups of users ranging from medical professionals and researchers to students and the general public. This paper argues that broad-usage medical image retrieval is best approached as a sub-domain of generic image search. We discuss how search over a diverse corpus of biomedical and healthcare related images can benefit from a modern content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system based upon general photographic content classification techniques. The system features a flexible query language based upon a generic image concept ontology which can utilise both metadata (where available) and automatically extracted image content descriptors. Furthermore, the system supports both text-based querying as well as similarity-based searching and is thus well suited to iterative refinement of initial search results without the need for specialist knowledge of relevant keywords.

6月，尽管货币政策环境有所好转，但下游房地产开发、基建项目建设等对工程机械新机产品的需求依然疲弱，市场销量延续同比负增长，不过降幅有所收窄。作为行业风向标的挖掘机，6月产量和销量同比分别下降22.9%、24.2%，行业总体走势依然不佳。在此不利形势下，行业收入增长基本停滞，利润降幅则继续扩大，行业尤其是重点企业经营形势愈加严峻。进入下半年，货币政策环境将延续好转势头，近期审批的基建投资项目将集中开工，房地产开发投资形势也将好于上半年，预计工程机械市场需求将有所回升。不过由于二季度销量降幅较大，全年销售增速或再度下滑，预计2014年八大典型工程机械销量同比增长4.0%左右，低于上年销量6.5%的增速，其中下半年销量将恢复适度增长，行业经营形势也将出现好转。

6月，国家财政支出数据继续大幅反弹，同时，环保行业投资增速小幅反弹，其中废弃资源综合利用业投资完成额同比出现大幅反弹；水利、环境和公共设施管理业投资增速虽有下降，但仍保持较好增速。产品产量方面，环保专用设备产量保持较快增长，环境监测仪器仪表产量回归正增长，数据有较大改观，未来仍有望继续保持。预计下半年国家环保支出将会反弹，维持往年的国家环保支出预算占比。

This chapter aims to broaden the bridge that covers the gap between the biomedical science community and engineers, by encouraging the developers and the users of biomedical equipment to apply at a large scale and to promote the Field-Programmable Gate Array technology. One provides a brief recall of this technology and of its key advantages: high electrical performances (great complexity, high speed, low energy consumption, etc.), extremely short time-to-market, high reliability even in field conditions, flexibility, portability, standardization, etc. A tutorial description of the FPGA development methodology is also provided. Some of the most successful FPGA applications in this field are mentioned: medical imaging, minimally-invasive surgery platforms, radio-frequency identification, etc.

5月，社会资金面依然紧张，下游房地产开发投资增速明显回落，基建项目开工情况也未见好转，工程机械产品新机需求继续走弱。作为行业风向标的挖掘机5月产量和销量同比分别下降25.5%、31.0%，主要产品中仅叉车销量保持增长，行业回暖势头显著受阻。在此不利形势下，行业收入和利润增速均明显回落，尤其利润总额再度陷入负增长，企业经营形势异常严峻。进入6月，工程机械市场销量将延续季节性下滑的态势，市场景气程度仍取决于下游基建项目的开工情况。在国家微刺激政策的支持下，下游基建项目开工情况或有所好转，但房地产开发投资增速难言回升。因此，预计6月工程机械市场需求走弱的态势仍将持续，主要产品销量同比降幅或有所收窄。

In this project, we proposed to develop the imaging method for early detection of amyloid plaque in Alzheimer's disease. As specified in SA1 and the project timeline, the major tasks of year 1 are the construction and optimization of a prototype x-ray phase contrast CT system to carry out the tasks specified in SA2 and 3. Thus far, the construction of the prototype x- ray phase contrast CT is progressing well and is in the optimization process as anticipated. The major challenge of building the prototype x-ray phase contrast CT is the fabrication of x-ray gratings at high precision and performance. Enabled by the cutting-edge opti-mechanical equipment and devices at the Nano- Technology Research Center of GaTech (see Fig. 1), we have gained a plenty of experience in fabricating the x-ray gratings through a trial and error optimization process. We have also built three modules that are ready for filling of ABeta-peptide and ABeta-peptide/fibril to make the ABeta-peptide phantoms to carry out the tasks specified in SA2. Thus far, under partial support of this award, two journal papers have been published in Medical Physics- one of the leading journals in medical imaging, and five papers published in leading international conferences. Overall, the project's progression has been in pace with the project timeline specified in statement of work (SOW).
