Specialty enzymes are substances that activate or speed up biochemical reactions. Enzymes are produced from fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, and yeast. Specialty enzymes are used in industries for various purposes. The demand for global specialty enzymes is high due to increased awareness and the prevalence of chronic diseases. Companies must increase the supply of raw materials to produce specialty enzymes in bulk as the demand for specialty enzymes is high. Only bio-based substances are used to produce specialty enzymes. Thus, companies invest in R&D to produce enzymes in bulk.

A membrane bioreactor works on an advanced wastewater treatment technology, which integrates membrane separation with biological wastewater treatment. It combines a suspended growth biological treatment method, typically activated sludge, with membrane filtration equipment, usually low-pressure ultrafiltration (UF) or microfiltration (MF) membranes. The membranes are used to execute the critical solid-liquid separation function. In activated sludge systems, this is usually achieved using tertiary and secondary clarifiers along with tertiary filtration. The two common types of membrane bioreactor systems are gravity-driven or vacuum and pressure-driven systems. Gravity-driven or vacuum bioreactors are immersed and usually use a flat sheet or hollow fiber membranes installed in either the bioreactors or subsequent membrane tanks. Pressure-driven systems are in-pipe cartridge systems situated on the exterior of the bioreactor.
