The increase in the understanding of genomics and drug delivery systems facilitated the development of RNA therapeutics as a mode of drug delivery. RNAi drug delivery systems offer better bioavailability and mode of action for effective therapeutic benefits. Three types of RNAi drug delivery technologies include the nanoparticle-based RNAi delivery system, the nucleicacid-based drug delivery method, and the aptamer-based RNAi drug delivery system. The nanoparticle-based RNAi drug delivery systems represent the most popular system; while the nucleic-acid-based drug delivery method and the aptamer-based RNAi drug delivery system represent the niche upcoming technologies.

Three-dimensional flat panel TVs display images with depth perception. To achieve this, these devices employ various technologies such as stereoscopic display, multi-view display, and 2Dplus-depth. Special glasses are required to experience this depth perception technology. Other technologies such as an active shutter 3D system and a polarized 3D system or an autostereoscopic system (which facilitates 3D viewing without the need for glasses) are also used by the vendors. This technology is in great demand for gaming purposes, viewing 3D content, and television broadcast.

Asia-Pacific markets displayed varying results from country to country while real estate markets in the region remained resilient. China’s economy slowed as it continued to transform from an export-led to a consumption growth model; however, Japanese growth picked up after the Government announced a stimulus program to reignite the stagnant economy.The average share price of 14 leading property companies declined by 8.39% over the six months,with only five companies’ prices rising over the six months ended October 2, 2013.Leading Asia-Pacific property companies reported mixed financial results, with a few seeing improvements and others suffering lower net profits and declining revenue in the half year ended June 30, 2013.Merger and acquisition activity remained active over the first half, thanks to positive sentiment in the market.

The Asia-Pacific insurance industry experienced stable growth over the six months under review,benefiting from improved capital inflows and revived domestic demand.Life insurance premiums in emerging markets grew by 4.9% in 2012, compared with 0.6% the year before. The low interest rate environment and ongoing regulatory changes were key challenges to life insurers.The profitability of non-life insurers improved moderately, backed by low catastrophe losses and by reserve releases. Non-life insurance premiums in emerging markets grew by 7.9% in 2012,
compared with 8.7% in 2011.The property catastrophe reinsurance market continued firm, although it softened slightly after catastrophe events in 2011, pushed up premium rates.The shallow investment market and a lack of longer tenure assets to match long-term liabilities continued to challenge asset liability management in most Asian markets.

Automakers expanded their footprint particularly in South-east Asia as growth in their domestic markets slowed down. China, the world’s largest auto market, sold a total of 17.82 million vehicles in the first ten months of 2013, up 13.5% year-on-year.
The Indian auto sector witnessed a contraction of nearly 5% during the first half of 2013-14 as a result of slow economic growth, persistent inflation, increased excise duty and higher key lending rate.Japanese automakers’ financial results benefited from a weaker Yen as overseas sales boomed.However, home market continued to suffer.The share prices of eight Asia-Pacific automakers tracked by Mergent grew by 5.7% in the six months between April 30, 2013 and October 31, 2013.Toyota maintained its position as the world’s largest automaker with global sales of 7.412 million vehicles in the first nine months of 2013, with GM and Volkswagen hot on its wheels.

Autonomous parking is an automotive system integrated into a vehicle which assists a driver park his/her vehicle. It requires minimal interference from the driver when parking and utilizes a safe human-machine interface to improve parking. Autonomous parking systems are designed to avoid collisions in parking areas by focusing on major causes such as driver error, parking space size, and space restrictions. The systems use different methods, sensors, and other equipment to detect objects around the automobile. They also warn drivers when required, provide tactile feedback, and thereby improve the safety and comfort of the driver. The primary purpose in the deployment of autonomous parking systems in vehicles is to enhance vehicle efficiency during parking, and thereby provide a better user experience. The parking systems currently available operate using a certain amount of human intervention, and hence are semiautomatic fully automatic systems are expected to hit the market only by 2020.
