A central venous access device is a small, flexible tube inserted into an individual's central circulation system to administer medication and fluids, collect blood samples, and measure venous pressure. These devices, made of non-irritating materials such as silicone to reduce the side effects of long-term use, are placed in a large vein by surgeons or interventional radiologists, with or without general anesthesia. They are used in cases where a patient cannot or must not eat; medication must be delivered over a prolonged period of time or only via an IV, such as chemotherapy; repeated transfusions of blood or blood products and frequent blood sampling is necessary; and there is difficulty in obtaining peripheral venous access. CVCs, PICCs, and implantable ports are common types of central venous access devices. Thrombotic, mechanical, and precipitate vascular occlusions are common complications associated with these devices.

Flexible endoscopes consist of a flexible insertion tube equipped with fiber-optic glass rods, a camera, and ports that allow a physician to access and visualize the internal diseased areas of the body, to collect tissue samples, and to insert devices that help stop internal bleeding. The equipment is relatively safe and can be used to view parts of the body that are otherwise difficult to access such as the intestines. However, flexible endoscopes are expensive, fragile, and provide lower quality images than rigid endoscopes.

Robotic, or computer-assisted, surgery was primarily developed to help doctors perform minimally invasive surgery - operations carried out through a small incision in the skin and requiring little to no stitches or staples to close. A capacitor is a device that stores electrostatic charge when an electric field is applied across it. The device also improves the power factor and reduces the transient current, which can otherwise damage expensive electrical equipment. While there are different types of capacitors, the basic structure consists of two conductors separated by a dielectric medium. The non-conducting dielectric increases the charge capacity. Various materials such as ceramic, glass, plastic film, vacuum, air, mica, or an oxide layer can act as a dielectric. A high-voltage capacitor can withstand up to 1 million volts while operating in a circuit. Improvement in the power factor can help reduce electricity loss.

Similar to a mechanical water meter, a smart water meter is connected to a data logger that continuously monitors a building's or home's water consumption. However, whereas traditional water meters only measure total consumption, smart water meters are Internet-capable devices that record when and how much water is being used, providing real-time information that enables companies and individual consumers to understand and monitor their water consumption. Smart water meters help water utilities, in particular, to manage their water networks more efficiently and provide better customer service, chiefly by allowing them to accurately determine water consumption at peak periods. For instance, washing machines create pulses when in use, which are logged by a data logger in a predefined frequency. User-defined parameters, such as flow rate, time, and volume, disaggregate the information provided by these pulses and assign them to different water-use "events." These events are then retrieved by the smart water meter, so that water consumption or wastage can be measured and controlled. Smart water meter information can be represented as exhibited below:
