    This research has produced several important research contributions to the communications, signal processing and data fusion communities. It was shown that if the sensors know that their data is to be used to solve a specific target detection and estimation problem, they are able to determine what data is necessary to accurately solve these problems and which data which is already well described by previously observed data. Thus joint design can enable a new generation of technologies for solving important real-world problems related to large-scale networks of monitoring sensors spread over large regions.

  • 36942.MANETs通信有效性获得:战略通信中移动AdHoc网络路由方案分析

    Warfighting based on Commander s Intent and Mission Tactics will remain the foundation of command and control, but the information structure that supports Marine Corps tactical units will continuously undergo changes based on developments in information technology. Mobile Ad Hoc Networking is one of the information technology developments that the Marine Corps is currently studying. Mobile Ad Hoc Network s (MANETs) are infrastructureless, highly mobile communications and their multi-hop routing capabilities have the potential to reliably and robustly extend existing networks to the tactical edge. There are many challenges to MANET implementation however, including management of the dynamic physical topology, and the efficient use of limited spectral and energy resources. One platform being tested by the Marine Corps utilizes a time-division multiple access (TDMA) scheme combined with Barrage Relaying to ensure robust communications. Other schemes for MANETs employ intelligent-routing protocols. This thesis examines those protocols and identifies the parameters needed to implement a tactical MANET routing scheme. The findings of this research advance understanding of MANETs and the elements necessary to enable their use in support of tactical communications; bringing the Marine Corps closer to its goal of lightweight and efficient tactical communications.

  • 36943.使用商业OFDM通信网络的无源合成孔径雷达成像

    This research develops collection and signal processing models to produce passive SAR ground images using OFDM communication networks. The OFDM- based WiMAX network is selected as a relevant example and is evaluated as a viable source for radar ground imaging. The monostatic and bistatic phase history models for OFDM are derived and validated with experimental single dimensional data. An airborne passive collection model is defined and signal processing approaches are proposed providing practical solutions to passive SAR imaging scenarios. Finally, experimental SAR images using general OFDM and WiMAX waveforms are shown to validate the overarching signal processing concept.

  • 36945.通信网络:基于结果的措施将协助DHS在网络安全方面的努力成效评估

    GAO has identified the protection of systems supporting the nation's critical infrastructure--which includes the communications sector--as a government-wide high-risk area. GAO was asked to (1) identify the roles of and actions taken by key federal entities to help protect communications networks from cyber-based threats, (2) assess what is known about the extent to which cyber incidents affecting the communications networks have been reported to the FCC and DHS, and (3) determine if Defense's pilot programs to promote cybersecurity in the defense industrial base can be used in the communications sector. To do this, GAO focused on core and access networks that support communication services, as well as critical components supporting the Internet. GAO analyzed federal agency policies, plans, and other documents; interviewed officials; and reviewed relevant reports.

  • 36946.利用Simulink运行NASA遗留代码LAPIN同步仿真模拟的新技术

    This report presents a method for running a dynamic legacy inlet simulation in concert with another dynamic simulation that uses a graphical interface. The legacy code, NASA's LArge Perturbation INlet (LAPIN) model, was coded using the FORTRAN 77 (The Portland Group, Lake Oswego, OR) programming language to run in a command shell similar to other applications that used the Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA). Simulink (MathWorks, Natick, MA) is a dynamic simulation that runs on a modern graphical operating system. The product of this work has both simulations, LAPIN and Simulink, running synchronously on the same computer with periodic data exchanges. Implementing the method described in this paper avoided extensive changes to the legacy code and preserved its basic operating procedure. This paper presents a novel method that promotes inter-task data communication between the synchronously running processes.

  • 36947.一般动力学SDR自动增益控制特性测试

    The General Dynamics (GD) S-Band software defined radio (SDR) in the Space Communications and Navigation (SCAN) Testbed on the International Space Station (ISS) will provide experimenters an opportunity to develop and demonstrate experimental waveforms in space. The GD SDR platform and initial waveform were characterized on the ground before launch and the data will be compared to the data that will be collected during on-orbit operations. A desired function of the SDR is to estimate the received signal to noise ratio (SNR), which would enable experimenters to better determine on-orbit link conditions. The GD SDR does not have an SNR estimator, but it does have an analog and a digital automatic gain control (AGC). The AGCs can be used to estimate the SDR input power which can be converted into a SNR. Tests were conducted to characterize the AGC response to changes in SDR input power and temperature. This purpose of this paper is to describe the tests that were conducted, discuss the results showing how the AGCs relate to the SDR input power, and provide recommendations for AGC testing and characterization.

    This presentation briefly discusses application of the Root Raised Cosine (RRC) pulse shaping in the space telecommunication. Use of the RRC filtering (i.e., pulse shaping) is adopted in commercial communications, such as cellular technology, and used extensively. However, its use in space communication is still relatively new. This will possibly change as the crowding of the frequency spectrum used in the space communication becomes a problem. The two conflicting requirements in telecommunication are the demand for high data rates per channel (or user) and need for more channels, i.e., more users.

  • 36950.NASAGRC无人驾驶飞机系统(UAS)项目:通信建模与仿真状态研究

    As part of the effort to integrate UAS in the National Airspace, NASA Glenn Research Center is currently involved with providing research into Communications systems and Communication system operations in order to assist with developing requirements for this implementation. In order to provide data and information regarding communication systems performance that will be necessary, NASA GRC is tasked with developing and executing plans for simulations of candidate future UAS command and control communications, in line with architectures and communications technologies being developed and/or proposed by NASA and relevant aviation organizations (in particular, RTCA SC-203). The simulations and related analyses will provide insight into the ability of proposed communications technologies and system architectures to enable safe operation of UAS, meeting UAS in the NAS project goals (including performance requirements, scalability, and interoperability), and ultimately leading to a determination of the ability of NextGen communication systems to accommodate UAS.
