The overall taxi market is becoming competitive majorly due to the rising trend of ride-sharing and ride-hailing services. Ride-sharing is gaining popularity among commuters across the world and the market is expanding at a rapid pace. Today, Uber has established itself as a market leader when it comes to cab-hailing services. The brand is slowly inching into other streams of services as well. Uber is a global leader in the taxi market; however, when it comes to any specific country, global leaders are merging or doing partnerships with the domestic leading companies. For instance, Didi Chuxing, which dominates the Chinese car-hailing services, has taken over Uber’s Chinese operation, strengthening its market share on the mainland and possibly gives it a toehold to expand abroad. Artificial intelligence is expected to step into the world of taxi especially in ride-hailing; for instance, the acquisition of SPLT by Bosch and the partnership that Sony has established with Tokyo taxis are future opportunities.
