Biosimulation is the simulation of biological processes and systems, and is aided by computers. It plays an important role in the drug discovery and development process. The drug discovery and development process can be broadly classified into the following stages: target identification, target validation, lead discovery, lead optimization, and pre-clinical and clinical testing. Biosimulation is employed during all these stages and supports decision-making. One of the key roles of biosimulation in the drug discovery and development process is that it enables trials on a virtual patient population, thereby reducing the need for clinical trials on humans and animals. Thus, biosimulation provides immense value to pharmaceutical companies in terms of reducing both R&D time and costs.

A breast implant is a prosthesis that is implanted under the breast tissue to correct the size, form, and quality of a woman’s breast. It is also used to restructure breast tissue after a mastectomy or other damage to the breast. Breast implants are of two types: silicone and saline breast implants. Both types have a silicone outer shell. These implants vary in size, shell thickness, and shape. A DMFC is a subcategory of fuel cells that uses methanol as the primary fuel. One of the major advantages of using methanol as a fuel in DMFCs is that the fuel cells can operate without the need to first convert the fuel into hydrogen gas. DMFCs consist of two electrodes that are connected with the external circuit; this allows the conversion of energy through chemical reaction between methanol and air or oxygen, which is then directly converted into electrical energy. The common operating temperature for DMFCs is 50-120 degree Celsius. Due to its low operating temperature, the energy density is high, which is generally preferred for portable applications.

Atherectomy is a non-surgical method to open clogged coronary arteries or vein grafts by using a device that shaves away atherosclerotic plaque. Atherectomy devices are used for the treatment of atherosclerosis, a condition where blood vessels thicken due to the deposition of fat, leading to heart attacks in the human body. Generally, atherectomy devices are used for the treatment of PVD in lower extremities and CAD of the heart. Atherectomy devices have the distinctive benefit of eradicating the obstructing atherosclerotic plaque without the disadvantage of a foreign body such as a stent in the artery. The procedures can be performed using a laser, directional or rotational catheter and can be executed in coronary and peripheral indications. The catheter is introduced into the body and advanced through an artery to the region of the narrowing and either cuts or shaves away the plaque.
