摘 要：Atherectomy is a non-surgical method to open clogged coronary arteries or vein grafts by using a device that shaves away atherosclerotic plaque. Atherectomy devices are used for the treatment of atherosclerosis, a condition where blood vessels thicken due to the deposition of fat, leading to heart attacks in the human body. Generally, atherectomy devices are used for the treatment of PVD in lower extremities and CAD of the heart. Atherectomy devices have the distinctive benefit of eradicating the obstructing atherosclerotic plaque without the disadvantage of a foreign body such as a stent in the artery. The procedures can be performed using a laser, directional or rotational catheter and can be executed in coronary and peripheral indications. The catheter is introduced into the body and advanced through an artery to the region of the narrowing and either cuts or shaves away the plaque.
