全球聚丙烯产能已从2001年的37132kt/a增至2010年的59541kt/a，年均增速近5.4%。虽然世界经济增长的不确定因素未来几年依然存在，但全球聚丙烯生产能力仍将以年均约4.6%的速度快速增长，其中中东新增产能约占全球新增总产能的26%，中国新增产能占全球新增总产能的60%，而日本、韩国及北美地区会有部分不景气装置关闭或闲置。预计到2015年全球聚丙烯总产能增加近15500kt/a，达到75000kt/a。2015年全球聚丙烯需求将增至近63300kt。2010年全球聚丙烯产能开工率只有82.0%，2012～2013年开工率将会提高，预计2015年平均开工率将提升至87%。印度和中国将继续成为聚丙烯消费增长的引擎。中国聚丙烯产能将继续增加，2012年有超过2000kt/a的新增产能投产，预计2015年我国聚丙烯产能接近18000kt/a，需求达到17000kt。但其中通用牌号树脂供应量多，而高中档产品空缺依然严重。由于国内新增产能过于集中，同时来自中东地区的低价进口产品会给国内市场带来冲击，未来聚丙烯行业的竞争将更加激烈，中小型装置逐步退出生产领域将成为必然。

2011年，LNG现货贸易量达到6200万吨，一些国家核能利用政策的调整、天然气季节性需求使得现货需求量增加、LNG产能快速增长是LNG现货贸易量迅猛增长的主要原因。从长期看，2016年以前全球LNG新增产能较少，LNG现货市场高速增长难以持续，LNG现货占LNG总贸易量的比例可能会下降，甚至是现货贸易总量下降。供需矛盾可能导致LNG现货进口国转向以其他方式满足国内天然气消费需求。

近年来，中东和北美地区凭借天然气资源和价格优势，大规模扩大乙烯产能，乙烯生产成本优势明显，在世界乙烯生产中的占比明显增大。中东和北美地区石化工业发展对全球石化生产格局和贸易流向正在产生重大影响，并可能对我国石化产业形成巨大冲击。我国乙烯原料成本与中东和北美相比处于劣势，为应对冲击，我国乙烯和石化产业要化“危”为“机”，积极搞好各方面的结构调整，促进产业升级；推动乙烯原料的多样化，在有条件的地区适度发展煤制烯烃、甲醇制烯烃等，未来也可考虑发展天然气液制乙烯。
