A cardiac pacemaker is a medical device used to supplement the normal electrical activity of the heart in people with cardiac disorders such as sick sinus syndrome, arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, and atrioventricular blockages. The sinoatrial node, a group of cells in the heart tissue, is the natural pacemaker of the heart. In cases where abnormal electrical pulses are produced by the sinoatrial node, artificial cardiac pacemakers are used to prompt the heart to beat at a normal rate. Cardiac pacemakers also monitor and record the heart's electrical activity and rhythm. They monitor blood temperature and breathing rate and adjust the heart rate to changes in a person's activities. They can be temporary or permanent, implantable or external, depending on the requirements of the individual.

The Asia-Pacific ICT sector slowed over the six months under review, hampered by sluggish growth in China and India. The ten leading Asian IT stocks were mixed over the six months to October 25, 2013, but most of them performed poorly, declining by an average 5.8%. Although Lenovo remained in a virtual tie for the top position in PC market, it shifted its “attack market” to mobile devices, which contributed to a significant portion of total revenues.Asia-Pacific merger and acquisition activity was low in both volume and value over the past six months, but the long-term outlook remains strong thanks to ongoing technology innovation.
