Non-melanoma skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the world. It develops in the upper layers of the skin, but not in melanocytes. There are two types of non-melanoma skin cancer: BCC, which starts in the basal cells, and SCC, which starts in the squamous cells. BCC usually develops in the areas such as the head and neck, whereas SCC starts in the face, ears, neck, lips, and backs of the hands. These can also grow in wounds or chronic skin sores. Treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer includes surgery, laser therapy, cryotherapy, creams, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and PDT.
