Powder metallurgy involves combining fine powdered materials, pressing them into a desired form or shape, and then heating the pressed material in a controlled environment to bond it. It replaces the conventional metallurgy process of melting and pouring, casting, drawing, welding, and forging metals or alloys. There is nearly zero percent wastage of the input material in the powder metallurgy process and almost 97 percent of the input material is retained in the final product. Thus, powder metallurgy is more economical than conventional metallurgy; it also improves the operational efficiency and increases the productivity of manufacturing plants by reducing material waste.The Global Powder Metallurgy market was valued at US$20.5 billion in 2012 and is expected to be worth US$25.20 billion by 2016, growing at a CAGR of 5.30 percent. Europe dominated the market and accounted for 40.39 percent of the overall market share in 2012. It was followed by the APAC region, which accounted for 31.27 percent share of the overall market share in the same year.
