Automotive safety systems are designed to assist in all aspects of driving such as safety, drivability, and fuel economy. These systems are designed to reduce accidents by focusing on the major causes of collisions such as driver error, distractions, and drowsiness. Safety systems have several advantages such as they enhance traffic safety and efficiency of vehicle, decrease human suffering, financial cost, and pollution. Safety systems may operate in an advisory, semi-automatic or automatic way that can control driving and traffic safety and thus can help drivers avoid accidents. There are mainly two types of automotive safety systems: active safety systems and passive safety systems. The active safety systems helps in the prevention of a crash, while passive safety systems primarily refer to the components of the vehicle, such as seat belts, curtain airbags, and side airbags that help to protect passengers during a crash.

An automotive wiring harness is the grouping of cables or wires in automobiles for the transfer of signals or electric power. It is also known as the wiring loom in automobiles. Electric wires are tied together with different components such as cable ties, electrical tapes, conduits, or a combination of these to form the wiring assembly. As a result, an automotive wiring harness is better safeguarded from the impact of vibrations than the individual electric wires in automobiles. Additionally, an automotive wiring harness is well protected from the effect of abrasions and moisture, which could result in a short circuit.

A sensor is a device that consists of very small mechanical devices that measure or respond to the changes in physical conditions in the surroundings and convert them into signals. Sensors used in automotive applications are referred to as automotive sensors. These sensors are used in power trains, fuel systems, safety systems, and driver support systems. An LED is a semiconductor light source used for various applications such as general lighting, backlighting, and automotive lighting. LED lighting applications include residential, office, retail, hospitality, industrial, outdoor, architectural and others. LEDs are gaining acceptance in these applications because of their greater efficiency and low cost. Also, LEDs are able to address some key issues that the world faces today such as the energy crisis, resource scarcity, climate change, safety in and attractiveness of cities, productivity in offices, and an enhanced sense of health and wellbeing, as lighting consumes approximately 20 percent of all electricity in the world. LED lighting can save on an average up to 40 percent of energy.
