Peptoids are biomimetic polymers that combine the properties of proteins and plastics. This class of materials is predicted to play a significant role in several bio-electronic applications such as biosensors, drug discovery, and biomolecular recognition. In order to realize such potential, films of peptoids must first be reliably produced or transferred onto substrates of interest. This work reports the production of thin films of peptoids by way of various methods, including Gibbs monolayers, Layerby- Layer multilayers, and peptoid nanosheet (bilayer) formation. Gibbs films were successfully transferred onto silanized silicon substrates using the Langmuir-Schaefer technique as verified by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy. Gibbs films were also prepared from a peptoid-peptide hybrid polymer, containing a peptide sequence specifically recognized and phosphorylated by the enzyme Casein Kinase II (CK2). An Ion-Sensitive Field-Effect Transistor containing this peptoid-peptide hybrid film is being fabricated as a biosensor for detecting CK2 activity.

“十二五”时期，我国工业化、城镇化进程将进一步加快，能源需求将继续快速增长。目前，我国总体能源利用效率为33%左右，比发达国家低约10个百分点。石油和化学工业总产值占全国规模工业总产值的12%，而能源消耗量则占全国能源消耗总量的15%，是节能减排的重点对象。2012年，我国原油进口量约为2.71×108t，比上年增长6.8%。在国家发改委公布的千家重点耗能企业中，石油和化工企业占1/3。做好石油化工行业的节能减排工作，一是要在新装置设计时，认真落实国家相关标准，实施节能设计，从工艺和设备上实现源头节能；二是要对现有装置，通过技术改造，实施设备更新和工艺优化，使老装置达到节能标准；三是要不断开发新技术、新工艺、新材料和新设备，不断更新节能标准，尤其是强制性标准，在新的高度上实现节能减排的良性循环。

Cryogenics is the study of the production of extremely low temperatures as well the behavior of materials at those temperatures. Cryogenic equipment is designed to store liquefied gases that are maintained at extremely low temperatures to retain their liquid state. Low temperatures below -150°C, generally referred to as cryogenic temperature, are required to store these gases. As these liquefied gases require extremely low temperatures they cannot be handled using ordinary equipment, therefore requiring specially manufactured cryogenic equipment. The most commonly used cryogenic equipment includes tanks, valves, vaporizers, and pumps. Cryogenic equipment is being increasingly used in industries such as Petrochemical, Chemicals, Metallurgy, Power, Electronics, and Shipbuilding for various purposes.

Heart valve disease is one of the most common forms of cardiovascular disease affecting the elderly population aged 60-65. It is estimated that nearly 15-25 percent of the global population are aged >65 years. Various factors have been associated with heart valve disease such as obesity, diabetes and atherosclerosis. Two types of treatment options are currently available, namely, open heart surgery and minimally invasive surgery. In these procedures the worn-out valves are either repaired, or replaced with prosthetic valves. Open heart surgery employs use of traditional heart valves such as mechanical valves, tissue valves, and annuloplasty rings for replacement and repair. The minimally invasive surgeries procedure employs sutureless valves and THVs for replacement procedures.

RDN is a new device-based percutaneous surgical treatment procedure that is used to treat patients with treatment-resistant hypertension. RDN is a novel, safe, and effective procedure for patients whose blood pressure levels cannot be controlled despite taking multiple medications. RDN devices consist of a flexible catheter that delivers radiofrequency or ultrasound energy to the renal nerves in the renal arteries. Since hyperactivity in renal sympathetic nerves causes treatment-resistant hypertension, RDN devices are used to carry out a series of ablation in renal nerves that result in disrupting the nerves and reducing the blood pressure. A number of clinical studies have proven RDN procedures to be safe, long-lasting, and effective in reducing systolic blood pressure by as much as 20 percent.
