摘 要:A house filled with sunlight is warm, inviting, and cheery. Sunlight is an elemental part of human existence and a fundamental component of green design. There is strong relation between light and human health. Buildings with abundant daylight help in keeping the human body physically and emotionally healthy. Scientists at the Lighting Research Center (LRC), in Troy, New York, US, have reported that naturally lit homes increase occupant comfort and productivity, and provide the mental and visual stimulation that is necessary to regulate human circadian rhythms. Natural light also helps in reducing the need to turn on electric lights during the day, thus saving lighting energy consumption by 50-80%. Interior designers and architects plan houses so as to ensure the maximum amount of natural light. However, excessive light can be troublesome and, hence, there should be a proper light balance. Windows cannot be kept wide open all day as this reduces privacy, increases heat gain/loss, and creates glare problems. Window dressing products are helpful to counter such problems.
