Asthma in older adults has a notable impact on the elderly's quality of life. Asthma coincides with conditions such as obesity, decreased immunity, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which are most common among this age population. Population Census 2011 stated that, there are nearly 104 million elderly population who are aged 60 years or above in India. Out of which 53 million are females and 51 million males. A report published by the United Nations Population Fund and HelpAge India states that the number of elderly persons is expected to grow to 173 million by 2026. Moreover, as per the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), China's elderly population is expanding more rapidly than the total population. The elderly population rose from 42 million in 1953 to 72 million in 1978. According to UN projection, China's elderly population will rise to 11% by the end of the century and 20% by 2025. The factors for the increase in the elderly population are a better standard of living and health care, a declining birth rate, longer life expectancy, and aging baby boom cohorts born in the last 30 years. Additionally, as per the Nippon Communications Foundation, In Tokyo, the total number of population aged over 75 will rise from 1.47 million in 2015 to 2.27 million in 2045.
