Haptics is a form of communication that involves touch. In haptic technology, the system or machine interfaces with the user through touch. Today, haptic technology has a wide area of application, for instance, the technology is very popular and widely accepted in the consumer electronics industry. This technology can be found in almost all smartphones and tablets available in the market today. The applications of this technology are also increasing in the gaming controls, healthcare, and automotive sectors.While driving,distractions like other vehicles, pedestrians, traffic lights, cell phones,and in-vehicle entertainment systems can cause serious issues. In an attempt to eliminate or minimize driver distractions, government authorities around the world have strict regulations in place, which require the use of safety systems in a vehicle. These include a gamut of safety and security systems installed in a vehicle, which are used to alert the driver in case of the detection of any unwarranted action. For instance, lane departure warning system can include both visual as well as auditory warnings.However, the auditory, visual, and driving senses may already be preoccupied due to several unaccounted factors, which may then result in accidents. Thus, the warning systems should use another mode of communication to alert the driver. This is where haptic technology comes into the picture.
