摘 要:Endometriosis is a common feminine health condition where endometrial tissue, which is usually found inside the lining of the uterus, appears and grows outside the uterine cavity. Endometriosis can occur in the fallopian tubes, ovaries, the outer surface of the uterus, the pelvic cavity, vagina, cervix, and bladder. Endometriosis has, although rarely, been reported in other parts of the body such as the lungs, brain, and the skin. The most common symptoms associated with endometriosis are pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive bleeding, and lower abdominal pain. Less common symptoms of endometriosis are rectal bleeding and hematuria. The detection of endometriosis is difficult for the physician owing to the common symptoms associated with it. Endometriosis can be diagnosed by laparoscopy, ultrasound, pelvic examination, and biopsy of the inner lining of the uterus. For a biopsy, tissue from the inner lining of the uterus of the patient is taken and tested using biomarkers for the presence of endometriosis. Endometriosis is a noncurable disease and might relapse after the primary treatment. Currently, the treatment options for endometriosis include the usage of analgesics for symptomatic relief and hormone therapy is used to control the disease.
