Rice bran oil is extracted from the outer brown layer of rice (known as rice bran). It is an edible vegetable oil. It contains 15%-20% oil by weight and consists of three major constituents: gamma-oryzanol, tocotrienols, and tocopherols, which have potential significance in human health and diet.Currently, rice bran oil is a niche market, and there is still an untapped market of 2.1 million metric tons. This provides an opportunity for countries like India, where there is high production of rice. Rice bran oil is expected to gain popularity among consumers as the oil is recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) and American Heart Association, mainly for its balanced fatty acid profile. As consumers are increasingly looking out for edible oils that are nutritious and have antioxidant content, the rice bran oil market has a potential for overall market growth both in terms of volume and value.
