EVs, also known as electric drive vehicles, use one or more electric motors for propulsion. The motors are powered by a battery system that is charged by plugging an external power supply when the vehicle is not moving. When the vehicle is on the road, the battery pack is charged in small amounts through regenerative braking.Therefore, these vehicles are referred to as plug-in EVs (PEVs). These vehicles

include all EVs, hybrid EVs (HEVs), and plug-in HEVs (PHEVs).HEVs are EVs that have an internal combustion (IC) engine along with an electric motor. The IC engine generates electricity, which is used to charge the batteries that power the electric motor. Further, regenerative braking generates smaller amounts for electricity that is also conserved in the batteries.
