摘 要：An RTU is a control device that helps the master device (SCADA) to monitor and communicate with devices in the grid placed in different geographical locations. RTUs are used in a broad range of electrical and process automation devices wherein supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) is required to monitor and control the equipment. RTUs collect data from field equipment and communicate commands from the master device. This is done through a wired connection (telephone line, cables, or Ethernet) or wireless connection. The operators receive data in real time so that they are aware of the complete grid situation and can make any changes to the grid when required. RTUs increase automation in substations, leading to optimal distribution of power. They also correct any anomalies that may lead to loss of power in transmission and distribution (T&D), reduce equipment damage, and improve power quality and reliability. RTUs can be used to control and monitor water treatment and distribution plants, power T&D operations, and oil and gas lines.
