Internal combustion engines convert chemical energy into mechanical energy, which can be used in several applications. 1-4月机械工业运行总体保持平稳，运营状况略有改善。一是1-3月主要财务经济指标中，主营业务收入、实现利润、税金总额增长均有所回升；二是利润增长中汽车仍是带动全行业利润增长的主要力量；三是财务费用、利息支出增幅比上年大幅回落；流动资产周转率同比加快0.03次；但值得关注的是：1-3月机械工业主营业务收入、实现利润、工业增加值增速均低于全国工业增速，机械工业重点联系企业又低于全行业增速；订货形势没有明显改观，机械工业重点联系企业累计订货仍呈现微弱增长态势；产品价格指数低位徘徊；固定资产投资增速仍低于制造业、低于全社会投资增速。机械工业固定资产投资增速的回落，以及库存、库存中的产成品持续低速运行，反映出未来行业运行走势不会出现大幅增长，未来行业经济运行态势将以“平稳”为基本特征。
