摘 要:Asia-Pacific airlines managed to sustain high passenger load factors in the first ten months of 2012, despite being hit by intensifying competition and rising costs. China’s domestic air travel demand continued to rebound from the slowdown in the first half of 2012, while India’s remained weak. To counter high fuel prices, airlines accelerated the retirement of older, fuel-guzzling aircraft and improved their cost and capacity management. Airlines continued to invest in service innovations, while strictly controlling unit operating costs to keep air travel affordable. An average of the share prices of seven Asia-Pacific airlines tracked by Mergent rose by 6.1% in the July-December 2012 period. Airlines saw acquisitions and alliances as a means of extending their networks, strengthening their competitiveness and bolstering their financial positions.
