Mauritius is a small and fairly saturated market by regional standards, but its relatively developed economy and smaller geographical size provide an environment conducive for development of advanced mobile and wireline services. The mobile market ended 2017 with around 1.713mn mobile subscribers, representing a penetration rate of around 135.4%. We note that a number of inactive SIMs may be active in the market due to the tourist season that may yet to be discounted. By the end of 2017, approximately 74% of all wireline internet subscriptions were broadband connections. In November 2017, Mauritius Telecom (MT) rebranded its products and services to "my.t" brand. The operators' ten-year licence with Orange for the use of its brand expired in September 2017.
