摘 要:The Li-ion battery is the most efficient and fast-moving device in the rechargeable battery market. These batteries are used commonly in electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones, notebooks, and tablets because of their high energy density and capability of high charge and discharge. These batteries consist of one or more energy-generating compartments called cells. Each cell consists of three components: a positive electrode (cathode), a negative electrode (anode), and an electrolyte in between. The cathode is made from chemical compounds such as lithium cobalt oxide or lithium iron phosphate. The anode is made from carbon (graphite), and the electrolyte varies according to battery type. During charging, Li-ions from the cathode move through the electrolyte to reach the anode and remain there. The battery stores energy during this process. When the battery is discharging, the Li-ions move back across the electrolyte to the cathode. During charging and discharging, electrons flow through the outer circuits but do not pass through the electrolyte as it is an effective insulating barrier.
