Robotic end-of-arms tooling (EOAT) is the last aspect analyzed when implementing a robotic automation project. The cost of EOAT can be as low as $10 for a suction cup and over $1,000 for an electric gripper. Hence, its cost is not a big part of an automation project. However, it has a direct impact on robotic cell performance and throughput. End-users consider performance, purchase, operations, and recurring costs when choosing a robotic EOAT system. The purchase costs include costs of all EOATs, the cost of the tool changer, robotic programming for grippers, and spare parts. The operation costs include the cost of tool changeover, compressed air, and maintenance.Washdown robots have become popular in the food and beverage industry after the approval of robots and EOAT from Food and Drug Administration to use in direct food contact. The washdown robots are equipped with EOAT that can be chemically sanitized to make them aseptically clean. The approval of these robots in the industry will increase their adoption in food processing and primary packaging applications.The growth of the e-commerce sector has increased over the last decade,especially in India where the government is focusing on implementing smart cities.Robotic EOAT can handle objects with many different shapes and sizes and are suitable for high mix and low volume warehouses. The EOAT of the mobile robots employed in the e-commerce industry consists of grippers, vacuum end effectors,and suction cups to hold and transport objects.
