It is no secret that Americans love meat. However, there is now a food revolution, which is weaning them off meat. Plant-based meats are making meat-free eating without missing out on the eating experience and nutrition of meat a possibility. While the proposition of plant-based peats has been around since the time of tofu, it is only now that vendors such as Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are creating products that can masquerade as the real thing. For reasons of better health, economic considerations, and environmental destructions that are growing and feeding traditional meat is causing, consumers are reducing their meat consumption. As meat moves away from the center of plate, the technology is offering avenues for stirring culinary exploration and appealing to multiple tribes from meat-eaters to vegans alike. The iterations are numerous. From products that have created a legacy to new entries that mimic less popular meats, the portfolios have become expansive and are enabling accessibility to savory and umami-flavored mock meats.
