Cable trays are used to provide mechanical support and protection to electrical cables or wires that are used for power distribution and data communication within a building. They can support various types of wires — high-voltage power lines, power distribution cables, sensitive control wiring, telecommunication wiring, and optical cables. They are usually placed above false ceilings and in trenches. Cable trays are particularly useful in situations where changes to a wiring system are anticipated. New cables can be easily installed by laying them in the tray, instead of pulling them through a pipe.
