The beauty industry can be divided into two broad segments, mass beauty care and premium beauty care, on the basis of the target market and product pricing. The mass category of products is targeted at the middle- and lower-income class (C, C-/D+, and D/E classes) population, whereas the premium category of products is targeted at the upper-income class (A/B and C+) or affluent class of population. A wide range of products are sold in the mass beauty care market and these broadly fall under one of these product categories: hair care products, color cosmetics (makeup), skin care products, and deodorants. Hair care products may be sub-segmented into shampoos and conditioners, hair colorants, and others. Hair sprays fall under the third sub-segment.
